Alright guys if there is another thread like this sorry but I searched and did not see one! Currently got a couple Circa 62 #3s and one is raw but might be looking to get it refinished by the custom shop in the black finish since my other one is pro platinum. Here are my two curious to see what everybody has as far as custom circas and mostly looking for black ones but anything will work to give me ideas! thanks!!

Got this back from Putterspa (Jeremy). I assembled it tonight with a blacked out shaft and SC grip. Pics to follow in a few days.

that thing looks sick!!! Only thing i dont like is the face looks like it lost the milling! The rest is on point though!!

Bought this one off of Ebay. It was formerly owned by someone with the same name as me. They sent it to the custom shop and had it stamped with our name and a CS stamp on the toe. I stripped the nickel off of the Charcoal Mist finish, cleaned up the top line, and gun blued it with Caswells that turns out more gray. I'll probably re-blue it after the season.

That toe stamp is cool!! Wish you could still get that!! Curious to see what the new blueing will look like!

I'm not absolutely 100% positive, but my current understanding is that the ones with the red paint fill were sold as "Charcoal Mist" finish. I think that involved a very thin nickel plate and then a blackener / oxidizing finish on the nickel that turned it gray. There may have been another plate under the nickel as is often done in plating to create a certain sheen. Anyways, I put a black ox finish over my red paint fill and it didn't last very long. Here's a photo. I also did a yellow paint fill right-handed one, the second photo. I soaked mine in a chemical stripper and then used the Caswell's but it is a much lighter color. I'll probably try the Birchwood Casey Super Blue on it again sometime in the future. I don't think any of the cold chemical finishes are as durable as the hot salt black ox. I might even try I hope brew of the hot salts sometime, but it'd make more sense to do 4 or 5 heads if I do it. Thanks for the compliment on the toe stamp, I dig it too. Don't know why they discontinued it but supposedly it's hard to hold the putter while you do it, so as the CS expanded they had to quit doing it. Good luck!

Yeah that's my understanding too. The early ones with yellow paint fill were gun blue I think and the later charcoal mist were red. I bought mine new in 07 or 08 and had refinished a couple years ago. Yeah I kinda like the raw look of my one but think I black murdered out look would be cool too! So much you can do and I love the feel of these putters!

The milling has not been touched. 100% original. I'll get a better pic. I have to remove the grip and re-install. I don't like how it feels with the shrink wrap on the shaft.

That was shrink wrap around the shaft. There are places to buy a black shaft. I don't remember where, but there were several threads about that.
