BestGrips and Gripmaster Grip Sizes

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I read so many good things about Leather Grips, that I want to try them. I've read a lot in the last days here in the Forum.

But something I cant figure out is what the different Grips are Size wise. I know that Bestgrips are plus 3 Layers on the bottom Hand.

I would need a comparison with the following Grips:

1. Tour Velvet Fullcord 0.58 with 2 Layers of Tape on top, and 5 Layers on Bottom Hand

2. NDMC Midsize with standard Tape.

and the ones I'm interested in:

1. Bestgrips Micro Perf standard or Midsize

2. Gripmaster The Roo standard and Midsize

3. Gripmaster Signature Golf Grip Cabretta with stitching standard and Midsize

I use only Suretape, which is a little thicker than normal Tape.

I don't know what I should Order if I want something a little smaller than a Multi Compound Midsize and a little bigger than the Tour Velvet with 2 Tapes on the Top Hand and 5 Tapes on the lower Hand.

I'm from Germany, so I cannot order for testing.

To me the best grips microperf standard is smaller than the multi midsize. I came from a standard NDMC with 3-4 wraps depending on the thickness of tape I had on hand and the standard micro perf was perfect. When you do go the leather route, I really suggest you use air to blow on the grips because if you don't like it or want to put it on another set it's much easier to take off without ruining the grip and saves a lot of time.

It only hurts once, except golf it hurts a lifetime

@Doaner84: If I understand you correct, the Microperf with 1 Layer is the same as the standard Multi Compound with 4 Layers of Tape? (Except the built up on the lower hand)

syringing off leather grips is easier than rubber.

The Gripmasters have a sewn seam which you insert the needle. One pass of spirits is enough and the grip comes off.

Reckon the reason for being easier is fluid does not penetrate into the grip.

I have done the same grip several times, use it for trial clubs etc

So the standard Gripmaster Grips are +1/32 in Size?

That means if I put 1 extra Layer of Suretape under the standard Size Gripmaster Grips it should be minimal smaller than Golf Pride Midsize. Would that be correct?

In which way the Roos are different to the Kidds?

Thanks a lot

That is how it feels for me. I have played the MCC plus 4 standard and the best grips were a bit smaller.

I mean in the upper Hand. The lower Hand should be the same, since both add 3-4 Layers of Tape. The upper Hand feels to thin for me on standard Grips and a little bit to thick on Golf Pride Midsize.

not sure on the thickness of the Tape, you cant stretch the Gripmasters much ,2 standard layers is max

Roos are different from Kidd's ,different animals, different materials

Both quality grips

Thanks for your Comments so far.

Has someone the opportunity to measure the mentioned Grips in the Key Areas (lets say 2 inch, 5 inch, 7,5 inch from the buttcap)? And than write the Details of the Grip (Model) and the Layers of Tape (Model) used.

That would be great und should help a lot of people in picking the correct size.

Thanks for your Time

Big fan of gripmasters now.they are made in Northern Thailand but believe it or not i get mine from malaysia

for some reason the Thai folk dont like leather grips and the Bangkok stockist just sells few selected types mainly Putter grips

Here we go!

I use the Standard size Kangaroo sewn grips.

I measured the grip on my 7 iron, it has been fitted to a UST Mamiya Recoil Prototype 110 shaft with two layers of paper masking tape for the top hand and four layers for the bottom hand.

NO double sided tape was used, i used contact glue to fit the grip.

Starting from the top and working down, all measurements are in inches and measured to the nearest 1/1000 of an inch-

2 inches: .955

3 inches: .890

4 inches: .848

5 inches: .813

6 inches: .796

7 inches: .789

8 inches: .790

9 inches: .789

I did, I got side tracked yesterday so my time estimate was grossly off.

Perfect, thanks for your Time.

I will measure my Grips and post the Results also. So anyone can compare the Sizes.

By the way, which Grip would you choose and why? The Gripmaster Kangaroo sewn, or the Pittards stitchback. Which one is tackier and which feels softer? Are the Sizes the same?

Here are the measurements of the two Grips. Both fitted with Sure Tape

Multi Compound Midsize 1 Tape:

2 inch: 0.97

3 inch: 0,935

4 inch: 0,91

5 inch: 0,88

6 inch: 0,86

7 inch: 0,83

8 inch: 0,81

Tour Velvet Cord standard Size with 2 Layers for the upper Hand and 6 Layers for the lower Hand.

2 inch: 0,927

3 inch: 0,888

4 inch: 0,85

5 inch: 0,822

6 inch: 0,814

7 inch: 0,805

8 inch: 0,79
