Aldila Phenom NL

JS Golf

Recommended Posts

For past couple of months I went through many shafts and finally found the one that really fits me.

I am started golf about 5 years ago for about a year and quit because I got so frustrated with the game. Its was very up and down and as you all know, golf takes lots of patience. Recently, I took up golf again and started taking lesson so I am still fairly new. I would say my swing speed is around 100 mph + or - few mph.

Couple of month ago, my golf bag was stolen from my car including all the clubs so I had to get a whole new set of golf clubs.

One of the items I purchased was TM R1 Driver which came with stock Aldila Phenom 55 stiff flex. Since than, I went through many shafts which are listed below with quick summary.

FUJIKURA Fuel 60 Tour Spec- over all good shaft, but I was not impressed, smooth solid but not for me.

FUJIKURA 6.2 Tour spec-solid shaft very stable but once again, I was missing something.

Oban Devotion 6-04-Another great shaft, very stable and solid on impact.

Oban Kiyoshi White 65-very smooth, low spin mid launch shaft. Not board at all and very solid but it did not have a kick like the other shaft I tried. I also could not get much distance with this shaft for some reason.

Aldila Rip Phenom 65 on R11s TP-Geat shaft. Very stable, smooth, forgiving shaft with the kick on impact. The only down side was that it the ball was launching high.

Aldila Rip Alpha 60 Tour Issue- Loved the shaft. I thought this shaft was it for me. Its very solid, stable and very for giving shaft for me. It also had a great kick on impact and the ball flew forever. The only down side was it was tad boardy which I really didn't mind that much.

For me this was the best shaft for me until I hit Aldila RIP Phenom NL.

Saw this shaft on Aldila Web Site so I dicided to give it a shot. It suppose to be lower launching than Aldila RIP Alpha. As you may have noticed from shafts that I went through, most are low launch, low spin shaft which fit me the best since my balls tend to have high trajectory.

After trying Aldila RIP Phenom NL shaft on my TM R1, it was everything I was looking for. This shaft is awesome. I know the word "feel" is very subjective but this shaft feels very smooth, solid and forgiving. Best of all, you can definately feel the kick on impact and sense ball piercing through the air with nice low trajectory.

Those of you who like RIP Alpha, Phenom NL is must try shaft.

Just thought I'll share.

Thanks for the update, I ordered a Phenom NL that should arrive this week. I currently game a RIP alpha so hopefully I'll have the same success as you.

How much lower does the NL launch compared to the alpha?

The NL is like hitting 20 ft high line drivers....

J/K...

It launches low... Real low. I haven't hit a shaft that launches it any lower. I had it in a SuperDeep so that may be a factor as well.

I spoke with Aldila a little bit ago and asked if there was anything they had lower than a Pype. They mentioned the NL will be lower.

I would say little lower. The main thing is that Phenom NL shoots consistent line drive. I rarely hit a balloon.

I play it in my G25. I've always been a low ball hitter. This is low launching, forgiving. Tight dispersion, LONGGGGG. Despite my lower launching I still hit this shaft far. I am happy with my set up. Looking to pair it with a 12* G25 head.

I finally got my Phenom NL and had a chance to hit a few balls with it last night, first thoughts are it's pretty darn tip stiff. I liked the ball flight but I was just on the range so it was hard to tell how far it was going compared to my gamer (rip a 80). I have a tournament this weekend but I'm going to do some more testing next week and get on a launch monitor and compare everything. It definitely felt tighter and I had a very hard time hitting it left, which are good things.

It wasn't exactly love at first swing but I was also rushed and popped it in for a few swings just to check it out then took it out and put my other shaft back in and finished my range session to prep for my tourny this weekend.

I'll report back with more testing results.

Very interested in this shaft. Just ordered a 70s and a Ping tip and hope to get in early next week to put together and try out soon. I'm hoping its a better feeling Alpha but some of the reviews seem like kind of a mixed bag in regards to that.

I picked one up to throw into my Fast 12LS to compare it to my 6M3. The eye test and PGA simulator shows they are about the same in launch and spin. The NL does "feel" better, but for some reason just doesnt feel as hot off the club face when you nut one. But it is a great for anyone looking for low/low.

That's actually sort of how I felt with it, it doesn't feel like you "kill it" compared to other shafts but it appears to be going just as far. Hard to explain, I hit mine some more last night and it was a lot better than my first range session with it. I'll officially put it in play next week most likely.

I've got 3 rounds under the belt and a good amount of range time so I feel I can give a pretty decent review of this shaft now. It's very tip stiff and very straight for me, I don't think it's the longest combo but I hit it really straight. I think spin is pretty close to the RIP alpha 80 I gamed before mayble slightly lower and trajectory is a little bit lower. I wouldn't say noticeably lower on either though. The biggest thing I notice is that it's very "tight", I don't really feel the shaft kick at all into the ball so it never feels like you really destroy it but then I get out there and it's out there right where it should be.

The closest shaft I think it compares to is the Fuji Speeder Tour Spec 7.2 I gamed last summer, not quite as stout and not quite as anti-left but the two are pretty similar. I'm going to keep mine in the bag and see how it continues to perform but so far so good.

I decided to give this shaft another shot since I have been so bad off the tee. I haven't used it since I added about 12 gr of hot melt to the 12ls. I was hitting it a mile today at the range. I dont know if it was the extra sw, the weaker flex from the weight or both. I was finally able to feel this shaft "kick" thru the ball. long and "straight". It looks like it kicked my 6m3 out of the bag for now.

I recently installed the Phenom NL Stiff to Cleveland TL310 which I bought recently and I really love the combo. With light driver head, I hit bombs. My golf instructor was very surprised on how far I can hit the ball with this new combo and be more consistant than my Taylormade R1 TP. Now my R1 is out of the bag.
