SkyPro for putt training (holy crap)

Recommended Posts

I put a WTB out a while ago for a SkyPro and got one from a member for cheap. I wanted to pair this with my SkyTrak but once i saw the putting mode on it, I have yet to use it on another club.

For those that haven’t used it, you attach it like a normal club and hit a putt, then the machine does a diagnostic check on your putt. Assuming it was one you like, you can favorite it and use that as a reference for grooving certain parts of it.

I have just finished all but one of the measurements on Silver, and I gotta say this thing really makes you knuckle down and focus on your putts. The only one I haven’t gotten down yet is Face Angle at Impact. With a + - tolerance of 0.8* for the silver, you better bring that A game!

I have to say though that I feel this has improved my putting to be more consistent. I’d highly recommend it to anyone, even if it’s just to help groove your putting stroke.

Agreed. Only thing I ever used my skypro for.

If you search back there was a thread a year or two ago with a guy really going down the rabbit hole on a quest to consistently deliver 0.0 club face.

I would be amazed if a pro could deliver 10 pure strokes at 0.0 on the gold setting + - 0.2*. It’s fun though because it makes you want to keep going and going.

i would think consistency is just as if not more important than the search to deliver the putter at 0* at impact. if you can make 10 putts and all of them are 0.8* open at impact, thats a good thing. is this correct? so its not really a search to be more square at impact but instead become more consistent as long as your measurements are within reason.

You are correct. Consistency is key so long as you understand what that means. Which is nice that they allow you to set the parameter that you want to hit. I have found that my face is usually around 0.8-1.3* closed at impact.

I’d agree. I’ve been on Sam puttlab a few times and consistency is heavily weighted.

Very nice! I want to get one of those Sweet Spot 360 devices you had on your putter!

Yep.

I use a blast motion solely for putting. I quickly found out that I tended to leave the face open at impact, usually 1-1.5, but working 10-15 minutes per day (usually in 3 separate 5 minute sessions), I got a lot better. Now I feel like anything under 0.5 is acceptable, anything under 0.3 is good, and anything over .8 makes me frustrated.

I've had plenty of sessions with 18/20 at .5 or better, but I can't imagine having 18 or 19 of 20 better than +/- 0.2.

Glad you are finding success with it. I was the opposite. I considered putting one of my strengths. I decided to get a SkyPro and couldn't believe how bad my stroke was. I got caught up into trying to zero everything and my putting got worse. I struggled to take the putter back when playing because I had a million thoughts in my head. The SkyPro ended up breaking, didn't charge and I ended up getting my money back. Best thing that ever happened. I read Bob Rotella's Putting Out of Your Mind and things got back on track.

I agree with Hoosier that consistency is the key.

Good point. I should add when playing around with this I was not a good putter. I’ve become pretty darn good since. Though I attribute that much more towards lessons, an improved mental approach, and my directed force putter.

Now all I do practice wise is roll a lined ball end over end. That tells me all I need to know regarding face angle and start line.
