If there’s no wind, it’s not bad. I’ve played rounds in the 40s with wind that felt MUCH colder.

 

Walking is key to staying warm for me. A rubber driving range tee works well when the ground is frozen.

I played Chambers Bay on Christmas eve one year (4-5 years before the US Open). It was probably only 35 degrees but on that water with the wind....very very cold. I've played rounds in the 20's but that round at chambers was so cold

22*F with 12*F wind chill. But one of the coldest, most uncomfortable, rounds was this past weekend. About 35*F but overcast and blowing 20+ mph and the course was soaked from rain and snow the day/ night before. Typical 'raw New England weather' if you're from around here you'll know. Absolutely miserable but thankfully it warmed up a bit after a dozen holes.Cold and wind just went right through you even with several UA layers and all the right clothing on too. Looks like it might be 60*F this coming weekend and I can't wait!!

I played Anchorage Golf Course Feb. 2000 in 20 degree weather. The course was in great shape after a mild winter. (For Alaska). One of the most beautiful courses I ever saw. Greens were U.S. Open speeds that day.

I had to wear a wind breaker for a couple holes one time. Must have been below 70. Had to take it off after walking a couple holes cause I got warm. Played most of my golf in CA and AZ.

 

I watch YouTube videos of guys playing in Britain when it's freezing, all bundled up, frost, snow blowing. I couldn't hit a drive 100yds in those conditions. I would try if I had to though.

end of Oct 2015, played one morning with my dad.... and i think it was 35 or 40* out when we tee'd off.... i was in shorts and a T-shirt lol.... a couple old timer's even asked if that was all i was going to wear out on the course lol... i did have a hoodie in my bag just in case

 

after that week it got too cold for us to play the morning slot, since the course would hold off on people playing if there was frost on the ground...

Back in high school, we had a couple "spring" tournaments where tee off time it was high 20's, low 30's. I can still feel a numb spot on my fingers from a bladed shot on those rounds.

A couple of years ago we visited Scotland and the one spare day we had I'd booked a round of golf (can't go all the way to Scotland and not get a round in)

Don't remember the name of course...was somewhere around Loch Ness I believe as that's where we were staying at the time. I think it was a 200-year old course though.

 

Anyway, it was intermittent pouring rain with howling wind. Temperature in the car said it was 5c but with that wind it was WAY colder. I actually arrived a little early and asked in the shop if they minded if I teed off early as the course appeared wide open. Their response was that if I was mad enough to play in that weather then go right ahead.

 

At one point around holes 6-7 it started snowing and didn't quit until about hole 13. It was the one day I had to golf over there though, so dammit I was going to finish the round out.

 

Actually scored pretty well. I think I shot 85, which in those conditions and with me being a 15 handicap at the time and using rental clubs I was pretty stoked with.

Now don't be a wimp, when I lived nearby we used to do barefoot martial arts training outdoors when visiting a club in Rovaniemi. Consider this a great excuse to take the kids to see Santa. Just don't go at Christmas, Rovaniemi is right at the arctic circle so you won't be getting any day light.

 

I like -40, it's the same in C and F. Perfect weather! Unfortunately it's not that common. Even -15F is nowadays considered a cold day.

In the low 20s F. There is a course near me that runs a $10 honor box in the winter. Put your $10 in the box and go play all day. We've played with snow on the course, frozen ponds below freezing temps. As long as the wind isn't blowing and you dress right and you play at a quick pace you can play in anything.

It was snowing the day before when we teed off so about 27 degrees and I shot a cool 81 from the tips. Flew in from warm sunny Florida

 

Next day waited till after noon for it to warm up. It was still cold.

It’s been a while but I’ve played in wisconsin in January at about 0 and snapped a shaft and had a ball shatter. Really hard to hold a green.
