Arccos Caddie App Now Free (Edit: for 360 Cap Sensor Users)

Recommended Posts

I've been following the Arccos system for a while but wasn't interested in the screw in cap sensor system not to mention the $250 price tag. When they started offering the integrated grip system for $150 I was ready to get on board but the $99/yr subscription fee made me hesitate.

I just saw that there is no longer a subscription fee for the Caddie app so I pulled the trigger on a set of their Smart Grips. Hopefully, they'll get the Android app updates soon or I'll be borrowing my wife's iPhone on the weekend.

Has anyone else used the Smart Grips? I assume it's the same sensors as the 360 cap sensors.

Edit: I wanted to update this post to clarify that the app is only free for 360 cap sensor users. It actually is $99/yr if you're using the Smart Grips. No idea why they're doing it like this but it wasn't clear in the article I read and linked to.

As covered in another thread the 360 caps are $250 but no subscription fee. The grips are basically $250 for the first year and $100 each year after that.

I ordered a set as well. As an existing Arccos 360 user, should not have to pay any subscription fees. I’ve emailed them to make sure that’s the case and will update everyone once I hear back.

The smart grip webpage says the following:

"*Includes 30-Day Free Trial to all Arccos features, including Arccos Caddie 2.0, then $99.99/year"

Regardless of subscription, I can't possibly fathom why someone would want to put sensors into the fastest deteriorating part of the club. I don't like the screws either but this seems like a worse idea.

I got Arccos 360 and have played about 20 rounds with it. Love the stat tracking and how it gives you a handicap for each aspect of your game. A lot of proud/good golfers (including myself) don’t typically want to hear other people’s options of their deficiencies. The data shows you quickly where you need to spend your time working on your game. It’s also way better than manually keeping stats.

Big fan of Arccos. I am concerned the batteries will wear out quickly given how much I play. I also don’t like the added weight on the butt of the club but I’ve been using lead tape as an offset.

I sent a message to their customer service for clarification before posting but the main Arccos site and their FB page both say it's free now. We'll see what they say.

Their messaging has been frustrating and confusing though. At least to me. The Smart Grips site says coming soon but they're already available to purchase from a few places.

Fortunately I don't seem to have and issue wearing out grips but they're available as replacements without the sensor for not much more than other premium grips.

I finally heard back from their CS and sure enough, you're right about this. Maybe they're going to phase out the 360 caps and go only with the grips. I imagine subscription model is where they're looking to make money. That or selling the big data.

Regardless, their messaging is so scattered. The hardware is functionally the same so why the two different models? Maybe it's worth the $99/yr but I feel like they're shooting themselves in the foot here.

If you take care of your clubs, grips last for years. Sandpaper and quick wet wipe down after a round. I've had grips for at least three years.

But remeber where we are. For some people when the grips are worn, it’s time for new irons!

There are plenty of grips out there which will not respond well to be roughed up with sandpaper. Iomics or their clones, Tour Wrap 2G, Superstrokes, Winn’s, etc. if that’s the kind of grips you like you’re not in the market for Arccos’s one grip fits all anyway.

Iomic grips most certainly respond to sandpaper. Winn, Superstroke, nope. All grips, if wiped after every round, will last two years. Winn are the least durable. I wipe them after, or before, each shot. My grips last me for years. The only time I change is when I’m changing colors or grip style.
