• History: This is the 30th year for the event (1986 - 2006, 2010 -). The victory at the 2017 Shoprite LPGA Classic is the fifth on the LPGA Tour for In-Kyung Kim, who most recently won the 2016 Reignwood LPGA Classic. She spent the better part of the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017 recovering from falling down the stairs. Her start in New Jersey was only her sixth of the year.

What a letdown. After four days of continuous USWO coverage, we get a measly 2 hours for three days. The weather calls for possible thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully they'll catch a break. Half of the Rolex top 10 are sitting this one out, including the Jutanugarn sisters. Last year's winner In-Kyung is in the field, as is Sung Hyun, Shanshan, Minjee, Jessica, Jin Young, Lydia, In Gee, Anna, Cristie, and Brooke.

 

Normally I would go with 2 time winner Anna, but her game has been really off. In Kyung would be a good pick, as she's been playing steady golf. Minjee and Lydia shuld factor. In the past few years it seems the top of the leaderboard is filled with a handful of unfamiliar names. Given that it's a 54 hole event, that's no real surprise. I'll pick Jaye Marie to finish in the top 10.

It sure seems that Brooke gets ready for tournaments by playing tournaments. If one is going to play golf, why not pick up a paycheck along the way?

Her grandfather passed away which is what led her to WD from the USWO. It would seem unlikely that she'd play here.

That's what I meant, I imagine it was a Monday or Tues. funeral and I thought it might be a bit of a rush to get to the Shoprite. Although she could drive form Smith Falls relatively easily at any time I guess

Go Stacy and Stacy Jr. I feel that when a pregnant woman wins a sports competition, there should be some sort of asterisk. Not to diminish such an accomplishment but rather the opposite. They deserve additional credit.

The long drive event was a flop. Cool heavy air and lots of rain. Right at sea level. No roll out at all due to the soft wet conditions. The men weren't hitting it very far either compared to what TV viewers are used to seeing at world long drive events. There is a reason they hit it 450+ yards in LasVegas.

Yeah, it was a bit of a joke for both the men and women. I believe they were using a 45 yard wide grid, instead of the usual 50 yards. That, paired with the wind meant that 90% of the balls were landing OB. A few matches came down to sudden death when neither player could hand a ball in the grid. The men struggled to reach 360 yards, and the women were under 300 yards. One of the men finally grabbed a 45" driver, and put it in play.

 

Four LPGA players made an appearance, and it was embarrassing. I think the big problem is that they were trying to hit 48" drivers with 4" tees with no warmup.

Unless Alison is injured...IMO...she's finished...which is a shame.

If she is injured....I think she's got to stay away from competitive golf until she's rehabilitated.

11 greens in regulation is actually an improvement over what she has done for the year. She's currently dead last in GIR at 52%.

 

She is either injured or enjoying life too much.

Lots of players I'm hopeful for doing well on day 1. Also doing some serious finger crossing for some making the cut!

 

Yeah, I'm sorry to say I pretty much gave up hope on Alison doing well a year+ ago. And that's something I'm generally very reluctant to do. But it's so consistent.

 

But hey, rebirths and reinventions are always possible. Some of the players I'm really hopeful for here are already in the same boat.
