VA Composites Drago

Anyone try the VA Composites Drago yet? I ordered one from Will Peoples sight unseen because why not but curious if anyone has tried it and how it compares to other shafts they've played.

I took a half dozen swings with it when they arrived last week. Very firm feeling in the butt and tip. Reminded me of the Hzrdus T1100 for feel. Definitely a lower launch profile than the Raijin.

Lower launch has me a little worried. I ordered and received mine last week for a G400 that arrives Monday. I was hoping for a mid to mid high profile which is what the specs list it as. I will get rounds with the Drago weds and thurs and post my findings after.

According to the VA site, the Drago is the lowest launching profile they offer. Whether or not it does for your swing is yet to be determined.

I’ll just say this. Was openminded and all, but first trials were pretty ridiculous. Isn’t rebar firm and ultra low launch, but stable and under control. Just totally rips. Best way to explain it.

I ordered 75x and 85x. Showed up today and somehow a 65 and 75 were in the box.

 

75 is curing right now for the driver. 85 is on the way and the 65 is going back. I cannot wait to swing this thing. After playing the Raijin most of last season, then a Raijin Black Proto through the fall and this season, I think the Drago could be the the perfect combination.

 

And the graphics are dope in person.

I will be on trackman for a lesson Sunday. After the lesson, he said I could get a little time to compare the 3 numbers wise.

Raijin 74x tipped 1" playing 44.75"

Raijin Black 65x tipped 1" playing 45"

Drago 75x untipped playing 46" (leaving room to tip as necessary after seeing initial numbers)

 

May try to get out and swing this evening on the range and get an idea of flight before tomorrow.

Ok, so preliminary results are in. Overall, it's like a HZRDUS BLACK but more conventionally weighted. It is definitely low launching but still has some feel and doesn't make it feel like a sledgehammer. The HZRDUS was very heavy feeling compared but gave the same responsiveness. The TP6HDe is MUCH smoother but also launches higher. Still need some more testing with the Drago. I do know that the HZRDUS is out so one down.

I recieved mine two weeks ago and after getting a few weeks of play/practice in i feel like i can give a fair assesment. The Drago feels great. 65x tipped 1” and it still has a very smooth feel to it. Would not call it a low spin shaft. More in the mid spin range.

Went through a Club Champion fitting today and the Drago was head and shoulders better than anything else I hit. It was a little bit of a eureka moment from the time I waggled it for the first time. Now I need to decide if I can afford it, or if I can’t afford not to.

While I loved the Drago initially, it became too demanding for me and I had to bring the TP6HDe back. When I did get it work for me, it was a bomber but it required too much for a full round.

I have made the jump to:

Drago 75 FIVE Tipped 3/4" in Driver

Drago 85 Five Tipped 1.25" in the Fairway

 

The Conclusion for me is I have been driving the most consistent with the Drago. I tested straight in, then tipped 1/2" and started playing with loft settings and weight settings to properly dial the club in. I put a 3rd weight in the M3 440, cranked the loft down to -2* setting and it's been really good. I am seeing rollout with my driver. First time ever!

 

I fixed some issues with my driver swing/setup that were causing low launch conditions, and I just hit these high flat bombs with these setups. So far so Good!

I have a 75g in an epic flash subzero 3 wood. It’s just a beast. Low spin. Can control trajectory. Normally a shaft that can do those things - at least IMO - can be boardy. Not this. Wonderful feel and you notice it loading and then kicking through impact.

Interesting - do you use it for both tee shots and off the deck? Additionally, do you play a 65g driver shaft? I'm wondering if I should go from a 75g fairway wood shaft to an 85g fairway wood shaft since I have a 75g driver shaft. Thanks for the feedback!

Both fairway and tee it’s good. High bombs off a tee. I play a 70g driver shaft.

Thanks! I may just bite the bullet and try it. The IZ just flies too high for me, which is odd since with driver it flights pretty low.

I have one coming today with a Titleist Tsr2 11* driver, pretty excited as I will take it out tomorrow for a test run. I have a Raijin 2.0 in my Stealth 2 Plus 9* and its a bomber one of the best feeling shafts and easiest to load, so we'll see

No other responses as I will say for a driver with 11* loft I hit some of my best drivers ever as I'm still working on getting it dialed in as of lately I have been dealing with some back soreness so now also with the Summer being over the weather is not as warm so for now I will say its not going anywhere. It's a pretty special shaft not only performs well but looks bada** as well
