Golf Resorts - Palm Springs

Recommended Posts

Just looking for advice,

Travelling to the US in Late August for a Conference and finish in LA, going to PS for golf and R&R Early September,

Which resorts has the best golf and hotel in one - won't have a car as i'm just looking to stay at one place for 4-5 days. Travelling as a single.

Some places i'm considering -

La Quinta

Rancho Las Palmas

Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage

To name a few.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Everything will still be scorched from the summer so I'd suggest the higher ends that can afford to power the course with water so your not playing on dead rye.

Thank you,

Good to know... Which are considered higher end?

Classic Club is good and so is Indian Wells.....I like Desert Willow bu its a resort course and quite easy. Another good course is the Marriott Shadow Ridge. If u want a large room for cheap, then Desert Willow is the way to go but Ritz Carlton is really cheap and a great hotel. The weather gets really hot after 11 so try to start by 6:30 and u will have a pleasant round.

Lots of good courses out there.....I don't like Nicklaus Tournament course because every single green is elevated.....I rather go straight to the Stadium course which is more interesting overall. And if you get a chance to Play Nicklaus Private course that would be awesome.

Thanks for the great information,

Is the accommodation at Desert Willow reasonable? Or is it better to stay at a Marriot or Ritz Carlton? I do like the idea of staying at a property with courses on site, without the need for to much travel. Shadow Ridge looks to be a great option to, however Desert Willow looks to be the best overall option for my needs with no car.

I wouldn't knock back a opportunity to play Nicklaus Private if a kind member offered :)

Just got back from PS last weekend. Desert Willow was in great shape. The La Quinta courses (I love the Mountain Course) are really rough right now. The Stadium Course at PGA West was in great shape as was the Norman Course. I am usually a fan of the Nicklaus Tourney Course, but it was also in mediocre shape.

The Marriott courses are always in pretty good shape, and that hotel is fun. Not a bad place to stay and it is really close to Desert Willow.

Indian Wells has two cracking courses..

Shadow Ridge is a superb course..

Desert Willow has two very good courses..

La Quinta has great variety..

So it all depends on budget for where you want really..

I see Shadow Ridge and Desert Willow and Indian Wells are all very close to each other... Which has the best accommodation in the area? Budget is quite generous.

Thanks again

In order of $$: Desert Willow, Shadow Ridge and then Indian Wells.

Have stayed at Shadow Ridge. Times share type resort. Good accommodations with decent amenities (pools etc.). Restaurant at the main bldg is good too.

Indian Wells is more of a hotel setting. No idea on Desert Willow.

La Quinta is a nice place to stay and I’m

Sure they have some golf packages available as well. There are also several courses you would be able to include as part of the package, with PGA West being part of that scenario. The Stadium course and the Nicklaus are great layouts that will provide a challenge for anyone at any level.

Ive stayed at the Dessert Willow and the rooms are large and they have a jacuzzi in the room and separate bathroom kitchen and living rooms....it resembles a 1br apartment......However the course is not walking distance.....you need to drive to the course......In terms of luxury feel, I would take the Ritz Carlton. This time of year, the prices are ridiculously cheap for everything.....im going back in a week or so......

Desert Willow has 36 hole on site. Marriott's Shadow Ridge has 18 holes less than 10 min away. There's also a JW Marriott resort less than 10 min away that has 36 holes. So five courses just minutes away. Desert Willow's on site accommodations are a Westin Villas, a time share. There's also a high end resort whose name I've forgotten. Google maps is you friend. Get Uber on your smart phone and you'll have no problem getting around.

Indian Wells also has 36 holes on site plus a cool 9 hole putting course. There's also two hotels, a Hyatt and a Renaissance. And the five La Quinta courses are nearby.

My choice would be Desert Willow but then I just bought a condo there :)

Enjoy your trip!!

Played both of the La Quinta Resort courses (Mountain and Dunes). Both Pete Dye designs, and can be had relatively cheaper than the other La Quinta courses (Stadium, Nicklaus, Norman). Dunes is easier IMO so I'd do that one first to warm up to the Mountain course.

The good thing about staying in La Quinta, is that you are really close to Arnold Palmer's and Stuft Pizza.

JW Marriott Desert Springs! Just played there a couple weeks ago!

How are the 2 courses at the JW. Always drive by when going to DW. Thinking of checking it this Nov when im out there.

They are good. I I am usually in the area in January or February. They are not as visually exciting or scenic as Firecliff or the Indian Wells Resort courses but I find them challenging enough and they are a bit cheaper.

Most of the greens have 3 tiers. Fairly hilly, deep bunkers, very lush grass, Sometimes they don’t overseed the greens but instead let them go dormant. They still seem to putt fine.

Was maybe looking to stay now at JW as it looks like the best accommodation with courses on site..

What are the practice facilities like? Probably look at uber to get to Desert willlow and Indian Wells..
