If I could play all I wanted...........3 times a week would be enough.

When I first retired I was playing a lot of golf each week. I never thought I'd say it but it was too much, and eventually I settled into playing 2-3 times a week and hitting the range 1-2 times. My handicap dropped a lot and I enjoy the game more. So yes, there can be too much of a good thing.

I agree with this as well. I know that when I played a lot over a period of time that my play often suffered the more I played. I would get sloppy and mechanical as I tried to fix issues on the fly. Take two weeks away for some reason and I would generally have one of my better rounds of the season.

Balance is important and you need a bit of variety to achieve balance. This applies to all things in life.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Senior golf walking nine is $7 each round X 3 days, is only $27. I can play a lot of golf at that rate. Just played 4 days of golf(54 holes) for $110, that also included a nice shirt and hat, plus 2 meals, golf balls, and range balls, but not the cart fees.

Business is getting in the way and I will only play about 3x per week over the next month+ ( 2 x 9 holes and 1 x 18 holes). My question is why don't you feel sorry for me?

Discuss....

Per week ?

I'd be doing that after I retired and paid off some of my obligations. What kind of business are you in ?

Per week. I want to be able to play at least that much long before retirement. I work a normal/average 45 - 50 hr per week day job and then have 2 side businesses that don't require that much extra time on a yearly basis. The side jobs just happened to both hit at the same time so that doesn't leave as much room for golf as I would like. Ended up losing out on the 1 x 18 hole round this past week due to rain. Woe is me.

You must be a single then, or soon to be one. I used to try to play at least twice ( been walking the golf course) with a 40-50 hour work week, as a single before I got married and had a family., and you have two side jobs ?

Actually, the time I was away from golf the most, besides the first few months when the kids were born, was when I was dating to be engaged and during our Honeymoon time ( wife did not play golf back then , accompanying me onto the golf course was only once in awhile ), didn't miss golf that much.

Two side jobs that require a large amount of time if you look at them in the short term but a very small amount of time if you look at them from the long term.

There are quite a few married people at my course who play just as much as I do. Those with younger kids and/or needy significant others not so much.

Good for you . Enjoy the golf you managed to squeezed into your schedule.

It’s light enough to play by 5:00 a.m. these days. You could play more if you really wanted to.

Hats, I do not think that number is low. I watched my buddy go from a 4 handicap to a plus 1 over the last two years by joining a country club and playing every single day. This year I joined the same club and tried playing like he does and my game is absolutely crap at the moment. I am going to go back to playing 2-3 times a week and enjoying the game rather than forcing myself to play every day... just to make sure i get my money's worth. I work a 6am-2pm shift and can be at the course by 215.... Very hard for me not to try and play every single day but for me the 2-3 times a week seems to be the magic number.

I hear you on not overdoing it or forcing it. My weekday rounds are more often than not a 9 hole round after work. Getting out and walking 9 holes seems to keep my enjoyment level pretty even keel. I have been downright pleasant since I was able to shift my work hours. Besides weather, injury and business trips I can't remember the last time I did not play 36 holes on a weekend. Right now I think it's more the stress of juggling the extra stuff that is getting to me.

This weekend I will only play a quick/rabbit 18 at 6:30am and be back on the job by 10:45am (after playing 18, having a meal afterwards and driving 30 minutes home). It will feel rushed because I want to enjoy the experience since it will be my first full 18 in two weeks (rained out of my Golden Oaks round this past Sunday) but I will also be thinking about getting back to the job. I long for the time in the near future when everything is settled down and I can get 3 to 4 9 hole rounds plus 18 on each weekend day.

Quit your whining and appreciate the fact that you can golf 3 times a week which is probably more than most people

That's what I asked for but I never quite understood the 'appreciate that you can do X which probably is more than most'. I have never strived to be most or worried too much about what others can do. The approach of 'what do I want to do and how can I achieve it" has served me well IMNSHO. It takes a little hard work to be me but it pays off with being able to mostly do what I want to do. Of course with the exception of the short term now which will pay dividends in the not so far away future.

My hard work makes me appreciate it not 'what most can do'. Me, me, me.
