Geotech drivers

Are they any good?

I am thinking of getting a local clubfitter to swap a shaft into one of their heads.

The models in my price range are the Kiallis and SP8.

Anyone have anything on these two? I have never played any JDM components before so am a bit clueless, but I want something new and with a glued head. I'm also interested cause I only have to buy the head. I'm going to stick a vs proto 70 stiff in it at this stage.

For me, your post raises two points: but not about the two specific heads your mentioned.

The first is the JDM issue. I have seen Geotech components (Japan sourced and not counterfeit) for sale, in more than one location, in both China and Taiwan. For me JDM, as a descriptor, should only be used for product which is only sold in Japan (and is ideally made in Japan).

Secondly, as I understand it, Geotech is a Japan based company. This leads to the belief all their heads are made in Japan. I have seen driver heads with a 'Made in China' sticker on them: and I have read articles were others have said the irons/wedges are made in Japan but the drivers/woods are made in China. (I have no issue with China made product if the factories have high QC standards).

If you like either of these heads and they perform for you, terrific. If you are paying a premium for them purportedly being superior JDM product, then I do not think that would be money well spent.

Thanks for sound advice. In the end I wasn't prepared to shell out big bucks for a head only that I didn't get to demo first. I just couldn't take that risk.

Found a mint ex demo TEE ex9 in my specs that was $100 less than the geotech head.

On the monitor it gave me better numbers than 17 M2. Have hit it a couple times on course and on good strikes it's as good as you could ever wish for. This will be my gamer long term.

It's quite rare to see a MIJ driver head these days, regardless of brand.

Also, if following the logic of your first post there are Zero JDM brands, I can find almost any JDM brand in Bangkok, either in large department stores or, for the more exotic JDM stuff, at smaller specialist stores.

That is a fair point, Vegaman. Here in Taiwan, one can purchase a wide range of product (heads, shafts, grips etc), imported by specialist golf shops, which were all made in Japan for Japan. It might make sense to refer to such product as MIJFJDM i.e. Made In Japan for Japan Domestic Market.

Re your point about MIJ driver heads being rare, are the majority of those sold by Tourspec Golf not MIJ drivers?
