What is the most unbelievable thing you have seen on the golf course?

Recommended Posts

We had a coyote stalk us for 3 holes at Talking Stick in Scottsdale. Not sure if it's unbelievable but it kinda freaked me out.

I've had a few follow me for a ways. I look pretty close to see if there are any signs they are rabid. Unnerving but if I took a step their direction they would trot the other direction. Probably been fed by someone.

Playing Fred Enke in Tucson driving down the cart path come around a corner and there was 2 pretty young bobcats (maybe 18 inches tall sitting) about 4 feet off the cart path just just sitting there watching the world go by. They barely turned their heads as I whizzed by.

There was a goose that had been eaten on the course...feathers everywhere....so we assumed he wasn't hungry . I have seen bobcats in my neck of the woods, not often, but I seem them riding my bike along the creek. Wouldn't want to tangle with one.

How the hell was a bobcat riding your bike!

Hit my tee shot on 10 in a tree line that divides the 10th and 14th fairways at my home course... random twosome playing 14 end up playing my ball thinking that it’s theirs. They apologize and we each continue our rounds, never crossing paths again... a week later playing a different course 45 min from my home course, I hit a ball into a tree line that separates the holes 11 and 13...twosome coming up 13 sees my ball and plays it. As I drive closer I realize it’s the same guys as the week prior...imagine their faces when I pulled up to tell them they played my ball....again

Was playing in Flagstaff. 1st tee - rando that my dad and I were playing with...bombed his drive left deep into the trees. 330+. We’re driving up the fairway and this middle aged lady comes running out screaming...her dad was sitting on the porch and got drilled in the head.

Guy recorded a DNF after 1 tee ball.

I was pretty new to the game and having a terrible day, couldn't keep driver in the yard. One of my playing partners suggested that I would have better luck just hitting my 5 wood off the tee. I take his advice, tee it up and swing hard....foul the dang thing off, dead left and high in the air. Elderly couple sitting in their back yard having morning coffee at a glass topped patio table........I wrote a check.

Playing a 165 par 3. Death and all sorts of other unmentuonables behind the green. Lake short but the pin was back on an upper tier.

I play 8 clubs. So I had to choose: slinging a hook with a smoked 8 or feathering a cut with a 6. Wind left to right so I went with the eight.

Now, I'm not a 400 yard drive guy, like a few on this forum, but I can get them out there after a few Coors Lattes.

I made a good turn and toed the 8 a bit. When I hit it I called myself an idiot and looked at my divot. I heard a pop and a bunch of people (two tee boxes in proximity to the green) and a beer cart gal were jumping up and down and screaming.

The ball hit the rocks short of the green and I got a good bounce right?

The others in the group couldn't see where it ended up and the hit their shots.

I stroll up to the green with my wedge and putter and everyone began walking towards me.

In my mind, I'm thinking, "I hit a cart or killed a rare species of chipmunk or something. I'm about to get my Word not allowed kicked".

Turns out, the ball flew directly into the cup. Never touched the ground.

One of the guys said that it hit at a 45 degree angle from the "hook" side.

Strangest thing that ever happened to me.

Saw Jack Nicklaus playing Sunday in 1986 at The Masters. (Watched about every third hole on the back due to the large groups of patrons...stayed ahead of the main group).

One #3, tight par 4, he hit a 1 iron off the tee that went (what seemed like) up in the clouds...and held its line against a strong quartering breeze from his right.

Incredible.

When I worked at Dyker Beach in Brooklyn, the FBI digging in the woods behind the first green with a guy in chains looking for a buried mob hit body. The old school nypd car in the woods off of 8 green is pretty classic too. However, since they have built the new clubhouse and the old school crew no longer hang around like old days, the place has lost its charm.

  • 3 weeks later...

When i was about 13-14 i hit a perfect drive down middle of fairway. As i was getting ready to hit my second shot (still very much in the middle of my fairway) i hear a ball make very solid contact with a tree thats about 30 yards away from me. Almost instantly it felt like i got kicked by a horse in my right thigh and i just dropped like a little b*!@#. Had what looked like the golfball itself under my skin for almost 2 weeks. I swear this guy must have been pretending to be Jack Hamm swinging and caught the damn thing solid yet just a "little" off line.

HAHA ive done something similar. Mine was a 160 yrd par 3. Still to this day not sure why i decided 3 wood was the right club... Ill just say it was a little too much and the house 20 yards behind the green took a direct hit to the glass porch.

Been with a guy twice now that backed up our golf trip groups . First time the guy lost his golf score card he tracked everything with. Actually took me back a hole behind us to see if he could find it. This happened not once but twice. I saw a living @nus without a person that day. Beat that.

I watched a buddy drop a 58 last month, on a legitimate tournament track, from the Blue Tee. Nothing lucky in it, just totally striped it. I left the course under par, having seen him pop 60 for the 3rd time. 1 shot will go into my log of "best ever". Par 5, slightly downhill lie, 250 to the front edge, over water, guarded green, with a slight opening on the left. He pulls out his driver, and I hear him say, "If I cut this just right, I'll hit that opening, maybe get a good bounce". Hit it perfect, bounced forward, rode the slope, down 20 feet from the hole, drains it. Some guys just "have it", most , including me, don't.......He's fun to watch!.....

At my father's old club in Dubai the Korean members had a notorious reputation for betting huge $$$ on rounds. We were playing in a 3 ball and had been playing behind a painfully slow 4 ball of Korean gentlemen, standing on the tee box for a par 3 for what felt like ten minutes watching each of the players line up every putt from every possible angle. Finally the last player in the group lines up his putt from about 10 foot and lips out, then from 3 foot lips out again. The bloke absolutely lost it and flung his putter into the lake that ran the entire length of the hole, then picks up the flag and javelins it into the lake.

Turns out the 3 foot lip out lost him $10k

Another couple we used to play golf with. They were doing the Oval Office in the golf cart.

or

Many years ago I was playing with 3 buddies in a course nearby in the Sierra. We could see/hear thunderstorms coming closer. But, what really had our attention was the sparks being thrown by our titanium drivers. We were laughing real big after almost each drive. They were really big sparks balls! Looked like fireworks. Looking back on it, I bet if we weren't wearing our golf caps that our hair would have been standing straight up. Because...on my approach shot to 18, as I addressed the ball with my 7 iron I was shocked to see my silhouette clear as day on the ground as the lightening bolt raced over my head into a nearby tree. Now, when I hear thunder nearby I stop playing and get inside. The air must have been very charged that afternoon.

We were playing in Hilton Head. Lightning literally struck the ground on the 18th hole while we were in the clubhouse. We look at the first tee and the guy jumps but then steps back up and off they went. No sirens and these idiots didn't think to take cover.

Same course years later, my son and I are playing and watching a bald eagle soar overhead. Suddenly it dives and grabs a fish out of the pond right in front of us. America!!!
