905r question

I just bought a Titleist 905R 9.5. I am lulling the stock shaft and wanting to reshaft it. I have a Matrix Ozik HD7 stiff. I was wondering the tip section on the 3 inch the same as the NV Green 75 stiff. I was wondering would I be ok to fully insert the shaft in the 905R. I dont want to do any blind bore. I want to fully insert the shaft.

You need to do your research on your shafts. Most current shafts are not designed to be inserted into a full through bore head. You might end up with something far stiffer than you anticipated.

 

I'm assuming you know all about the aluminum sleeve and have the appropriate tools to do a proper reshaft.

You can but it will 1/2 flex stiffer. You need a shaft with a 4" tip section. Some white/blueboards were made for bore through and are have G4"T after the weight and flex.

I did my research I was asking because I did not know if Titleist put in a made for them NV Green because its a 3 inch tip section. And the Matrix is a 3 inch tip section and I am ok with it playing a 1/2 flex stiffer. I am not doing the work I am sending it off to a custom golf shop to do it.

You can but it will 1/2 flex stiffer. You need a shaft with a 4" tip section. Some white/blueboards were made for bore through and are have G4"T after the weight and flex.

I am ok with it play a 1/2 flex stiffer I had this shaft in a Adams driver in a HD7 X that was tipped .5 inches and I wanted to drop down a flex. I was more concerned if I could do it or not and I am sending it off to a custom golf shop for the work.

Even the few short years ago (well it was 12 years ago), shaft makers assumed that driver tips would be trimmed based on through bore measurements. That is no longer the case and most do not tip trim at all and go straight into adaptors. Regardless of the parallel section, the shaft you put into this 905R might essentially play like you taking 1" or more off the tip so it likely will play more than 1/2 a flex stiffer. I would ask the custom shop their opinion.

Suggest you wait for a 905R on ebay or BST with Your Shaft/loft and buy it.

Thats what i did... found a 10.5 with YS6 regular, happy days !! Low Cost...

I have two (2) 905S 9.5 degree drivers. One I did a blind bore installation (Fujikura Pro 63 Tour Spec stiff) and the other a full bore (Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6S). The 905S with the Graphite Design is definitely a bit stiffer than the one with the Fujikura but I hit the former better. I suppose at the end of the day it depends on what a player prefers. A full bore installation of a 3" tipped shaft can make one that's just a bit soft closer to perfection. Unless access to a lot of shafts really cheap or free is an option then it becomes a guessing game. Best of luck!
