Had an awesome round with the new irons. 4i is still a bit tough to hit, so the jury is still out on whether it will be replaced with my 4H. But man, the 7i-PW is money. Felt really good and so easy to hit target. These things really excel in different lies. So glad I got fit for these. The PW was so easy to hit target I just ordered the UW. Not that my current 52* is bad, I just like the sole and forgiveness of the i200. And who doesn't want some help hitting 100-110 yds.

It's really strange... the 4-iron isn't right. It's not that it's somehow broken, but the magic leaves very quickly at 22.5º. I can hit it off a tee, but off the turf it has to be a perfect lie or sitting up. I'm switching to a hybrid-y thing, but with several choices out there...

- 22º hybrid (in the 5h spec)

- i500 4-iron

- g700 4-iron

I'm trying to be patient to see what works best.

14 Pings. Blueprints are incredibly good. Fetch is the most underrated putter on the market. Don't @ me.

I have a Fly Z 4H (22* 4i length) that hasn’t been able to leave the bag for 3 years. I’ve tried every new iron set 4i, but it always finds its way back in eventually. I can not justify carrying a long iron anymore, so I won’t even try with any future sets. I can work it both ways, and my stock shot is just a high beautiful 185 yd shot that I can do repeatedly.

It’s not my true rescue club though, I have it setup as a direct iron replacement. I will hit it from the rough, but not a crazy lie or bunker. That’s what the F7 19* is for. It’s lower flight is usually needed to clear trees, and I can curve it more. Plus the rails really help in nasty lies and bunker. It’s not really a gap club, but more of a rescue club, or long par 3 club as it rolls out a good bit and is hard to pin down the true distance.

One trick with hybrids is to make sure they are the proper length. Most of them come with too long of shafts and the lie are really upright promoting a hook. I shorten mine and also stand a little taller than I do on my irons and they go straight for me, or maybe a baby fade.

If I didn’t already have a solid hybrid, I would be buying a G400 in a skinny minute. Just get it o your spec lie angle, and get the same length as your spec 4i and have Ping SW it out to standard. Should be money. If you can afford it, go ahead and get them upcharge heavier shaft as well.

FWIW, I have the i200's in 4-UW and I swapped out the 4 iron for my old i E1 4 iron. I still think the E1 long irons are the best long irons Ping has put out to date. Strong flight, still workable, 0 ballooning. I'm considering putting the E1 5 iron back in there as well.

Similar issue for me here as well with the 4iron. I found my old s55 4iron better and easier to hit. Contemplating a hybrid though

I had a gapping session done on Trackman earlier this year. There wasn't enough gap between the 4 and 5 iron. My 3 crossover was fantastic off the tee on short par 4s and longer par 3s but became a bit of a specialist stick.

I now start my i200s at 5 iron and have added the G400 3&4 hybrid to the bag - I've had the i200s since they came out and would recommend them.

Cheers

How does the finish hold up on these? I’ve seen used sets that don’t look very good. Finish seems to be darker and duller after a bit of use. Are you all finding that to be true?

The frosted hydropearl finish marks up pretty quickly. I plan to take it off down to the chrome or SS with some bar keepers friend and scotchbrite after a few months. Then they look like every other set of Pings.

I like that satin look, dull perhaps, but I like how they're aging fine, have a certain character. I think they're showing less wear than shiny chrome.

Ok I'll forget about the 4i. Love 6-W, hitting good shots with the 5 but have to focus and can't get away with a sloppy swing. Gapping still good through 5 iron. I like my Tour S gap but there is something special about the i200 turf interaction, which means I might add the uw.

Played the other day - full swing didn't feel great, but my 3/4ish swing irons knocked down flags. Amazing, saved an otherwise frustrating day.

Carrying the old A12 pro 4&3 hybrids and Nike VR Pro Ltd 5 wood for 200+. Three wood spot is holding open auditions again. The Nike is so long, not sure I even need a 3 wood. XR16 Pro driver hanging in there but G400 is threatening.

Anyway, I think Ping can sell a bunch of 3, 4 (and maybe 5) i500 or g700 irons to us i200 owners who are decent ballstrikers but want a little help on the long end.

Amen. To me one of those clubs is the perfect 4 iron, and maybe 3 iron if they are that good. Do not care if I play a hybrid. I’d go driver, 4 wood (5 wood lofted down) and 7 wood if I can make it work.

Swayed between the i200 and iBlade for a looong time (playing the old black Cleveland cg7 tour). Realised I can't have a club that I need to be 100% on my game to be able to hit, so I found a set of i200 3-PW with KBS Tour 120 shafts (used once, 550$). Such a delight to hit, I love the sound, feel and look.

Agree on the length, they're not long, but consistent and much more forgiving than the looks let you believe. The feedback is very clear though, heel, toe - I can tell exactly how I hit it.

Tried them with the Project X 6.0, wow that shaft is not for me. Tried with DG S300, went fine, but the KBS Tour was a perfect fit.

Trying to find something negative to say. Tried every single similar iron last year and i200 beat them all, TM P770 got close, but I'm more of a Ping guy.

I know I'm in the minority here - but I was really disappointed in these sticks. Wear is bad immediately. I know the talk on the coating finish eventually wearing off - but I played them/hit them plenty and they looked terrible the whole time. Should I really have to polish my irons with chemical cleaner and/or scotchbrites to scrape off a finish? W/o powerspec they are extremely short. Had the same shafts put in I always played - in clubs with same lofts - these clubs are short. I did not get along with the turf interaction - too much bounce. Need for perfect lie angle is necessary or bounce is evil. Swingweight is light on these irons with most being D1 - unless of course you custom order a set. Spent a large amount of money trying to make these works. Selling was the best decision I made with these irons.

I haven't found them short at all. I don't think I've lost anything from moving from the Ping G irons (apart from the 8 iron that randomly flies 180 yards. Dispersion front to back is much tighter, flight is mid to high. Granted, my strike is better, hence the move from GI Ping G's to the i200s but even so. I will be honest, I only have the Gs to go against and haven't tested the i200s against any APs or P7s but if the i200s can hold their own distance wise against a GI iron, they can't be that bad.

I really don't get the argument that a strong lofted 7 that goes 180 is better than one that goes 155. If i need to go 180 I'll take a 6. As long as it stops where I want it, what does it matter. You make it sound like your 7 only goes 140 when it should be 175?

As for wear, I've had mine a year now and now finish issues at all. I use Glide wedges which are the same finish and my 58 has worn on the grind but so what? It doesn't affect performance at all.

The wear is a non issue to me. Buy raw wedges, then you have tons of random rust. Buy black clubs, then they scuff up easily on the sole and face. Buy chrome Forged clubs, they ding and dent super easy. To me the durability is why I went to the i200s, so am a bit confused what all the fuss is over the marks. I’m glad I have a set of irons I can just drop and slam in the bag and not worry about abuse. If the marks get to you, then polish them back up. No biggie.

And they are not short if you get fit into the proper shaft and specs. They are longer than my old Mizunos with the same lofts, and as long as my old Forged TECs with 3* stronger specs. I’m not a big hitter but get, 125,135,145,155 with my PW-7i. They are consistent, straight, and forgiving with lots of spin.

You only have to remove the hydropearl once. After that you have a very durable stainless steel iron. The whole finish thing is over blown.

TBH I wouldn't remove the hydropearl because as far as I'm aware they put it on for a reason and it should (even if microscopically) improve performance.

Taking it off feel like removing weights from a driver just because mud gets stuck in them...

It's basically a water repellent. Don't think anyone will be able to tell the difference.

+1. Plenty long, no doubt about that. In the power specs to match lofts, I hit them as far as I did the P790.

The ‘hydropearl’ is not the actiall finish of the i200, it is more a finishing touch. Insignificant to the durability of the clubs.

I didn't mean in terms of weight lol.

I just meant what is the point of removing something that was put on to improve performance. Arguable as to how effective the hydropearl is but if it really does repel water and water between ball and face is baaaaad, then why take it off for aesthetics?

For me, any minimal gain in repeling water (which I didn’t notice in morning dew conditions) was negated by my resentment over new irons looking weathered after such a short time. Now they look great and still play great. YMMV

There were several scratches/marks on the soles and faces but they look new again save for the very light scratches into the metal from sandy range. Also the black fill around the club numbers were fading so hit them with black nail polish.

Those look great actually. How did you manage to do that? I have the same problem with mine and thought it might be good to freshen them up.

Others had posted that green ScotchBrite pads and Barkeepers Friend cleanser would clean them right up...it works!

These do not play short!

Absolutely no way do they play short.

maybe not loft for loft, but it all depends on what clubs you are or aren’t transitioning from/to. I went g400 to i200 and lost yards and then gained them back going to cobra forged tec. yes I realize it’s because g400 and forged tec are stronger lofted.

could have gotten them bent to power spec but then I’d lose the height
