If you had to buy a driver by SOUND ONLY....

For me Ltd pro, tw vapor 420cc, and funny story. At the range the other day I am hitting my g400 lst for the first time and the sound is okay but not great and then the guy down from me starts hitting driver and it sounds amazing. Solid crack. I actually went down to him and asked him what his driver was and low and behold it’s the g400 lst. Same loft and shaft as me. So I asked him what mine sounds like to him and he said super solid. Apparently if I could swing my driver 30 feet farther away then I do it would sound awesome. Lol

For years I've played a driver -- to remain unnamed -- that feels fine to me but the sound at impact is... let's say... a bit "unique." Whenever I see/hear somebody else hit this model driver, I can't help but think "Man, that noise is brutal." So here's my question: what's the Best-Sounding Driver Of All-Time? Let's try and keep "sound" completely different from "feel," even though we all know that these sensations go hand-in-hand.

We're not talking about Longest, Most Forgiving, Best-Looking or Most Adjustable... just best-sounding. This includes how the driver sounds when YOU hit it as well as the noise you hear when smacked by someone else. I'm no expert but I've always thought that late-model Titleist drivers had a nice muted "pop," not too loud or harsh.

Your thoughts? Which driver and WHY.

Me personally, the best sounding driver in my stash is the r510tp. Super muted sound and guaranteed not to offend the guy in the neighboring stall at your local driving range.

Of the modern ones I've owned, Bridgestone J33 and Cobra BIo Cell Pro.

BCP is my goto club when I am fighting the hooks, put it back in the bag this year after about 2 years out, and forgot how great it feels and sounds. Still the only large headed driver I can consistently hit close to a power fade.....

List of drivers I've hit (not just demoed in a sterile environment):

- Persimmon Hogan Speed Slot

- Taylormade R15 460

- Srixon z745

- Nike VR Pro Ltd.

- Titleist 983k

- 2017 M1 (demoed outside)

Of the Metal ones I would have to say my favorite is the Srixon. Its very similar to the R15 (my gamer right now), except the Srixon is more of a thwack and the R15 has more of a ting. The VR Pro Ltd. was good as well just was a little too tingy when compared to the R15, but definitely didn't annoy me like most pings or Nike square ones do. I had heard good things about the 983k, so I picked one up for cheap to play around with. There was something wrong with how it sounded, but I can't quite put my finger on it. It has a muted ting, but there was a harshness to the sound it made, maybe a rogue odd harmonic is bouncing around in the head causing it, but it was enough for it to be "unsettling". Also, the thing I love about the R15 is you can tell exactly where on the head you hit it by the sound. Middle has its own sweet sweet muted ting while the toe sounds more muted and the heel gets more tingy.

Nike Sasquatch Sumo2. Always thought it made a noise similar to how i imagine a coconut falling out of a tree and connecting with a skull would make.

1st time I hit one was on the 4th hole of my home course. A friend had one and I gave it a rip. Turned around and apologized to him because I thought I broke it. He then explained to me that the sound it made was normal and thats why it had not left his bag yet.

Sound is so personal. Some like a muted thud. Some a solid crack. And even some like a loud ping.

My regular playing partners say my g400 sounds "dead". I happen to love it and the Callaway great Big Bertha 2015.

Titleist 976R had the most solid, powerful CRACK sound I have ever heard. (NOTE: I think it is humanly impossible to separate sound from feel when striking a golf ball with a club.)

A buddy of mine had one of these. You hardly ever hear anyone talk about the club. Almost as if it never existed. But yes, great sounding thwack at impact.

As for the R510TP, I don't get what all the fuss is about this club. I've had 2 and sold them both. The feel and sound were fine, but just fine. Nothing special. Maybe I was having off days every time I hit them.
