Been a while since I’ve posted in this thread, so, obviously, I’ve gone through a few different putters. The one that has stayed in the bag, though, has been the DJ Spider w/ a SNSR grip. I just received a Toulon Atlanta H4 and rolled it for the first time earlier today. It might be the best feeling putter I’ve ever had! Can it beat out the Spider? We’ll see.

Just picked up a Spider Tour Black with counterbalance grip.(Although the Bettinardi #28 was amazing too) Been using a Scotty Newport 2 for as long as I can remember, wanted to totally change things up. We'll see!

Didn’t just buy it. I’ve had it since college but I put a new grip on my Bettinardi BC2. Essentially took it from a normal grip to the most jumbo grip I could find. It plays brand new and I can actually putt with it.

Just got a Piretti Matera on a whim. It's really good looking, but I haven't gotten used to the heavy 375 g head yet. I've been using an old ping anser 2 for years and they run really light. This thing feels like a brick on a stick to me and my feel is way off at the moment.

In my opinion the heavy heads perform much better with a heavy grip as well. Gives the putter more balance and does not feel so head heavy. For me the secret to a smooth stroke is more weight without the putter feeling heavy. That is the philosophy Stockton goes by and I think it is very effective. I had a 375-gram putter built with a 100-gram grip and a 30-gram weight four inches from the top of the shaft, under my lower hand (NOT at the very butt end of the club, which is how many CB grips are designed.)

Removed the heavy Winn putter grip and 30 gram weight, and added a Ping PP60 grip (about 58 grams) and added an 80 gram counter balance weight down between where my hands meet. Amazing feel and my putting has improved dramatically. Tom Wishon has articles about the advantages of counter weight in putters that is a great read and based on a lot of research. Enjoy!

Bettinardi Studio Stock #16 off Marketplace. I was the 1st to unwrap this 2015 putter a sink a few today at our tournament. Totally reminds me of the old Red X putters.

Not in yet, but just ordered a Ping Cadence TR B65. Looking forward to comparing it to the Cleveland HB #8 I currently game. I went with the standard weight of 340g since I wanted something a bit lighter than the 370g head of the Cleveland.

It really is amazing. And I was not a terrible putter, I always have been a pretty good putter. It helped me get better. Something about the way the counterweight works when it is down the shaft really gives the putter a nice balance. It has made me more consistent and if you get handsy or have a yip issue, the heavier but balanced build can smooth it out.

 

Met Bobby Grace earlier today and he showed me three different claw grips. Super guy and very knowledgeable. All his putters perform and some of them are truly stunning. Tried the claw grip — the version Bobby himself uses —with my putter and it was so easy to start putts online. I am thinking it is a great grip for short putts because you won’t push or pull it if you do it correctly.

 

I also purchased one of his beautiful Lo Pro putters at a show price — the new Lo Pro that Bobby released in April with the tri-sole and gun metal finish — and switched out the weights to get it to 387 grams. Will add the 100 gram grip and probably a 40 gram weight in the shaft and see how she does.

 

For me there is no doubt: It is easier to start and keep a heavier object on the path I want.
