2018 Taylormade project (a)

I played with the TP5 again last night and the more I play the TP5, the more I like it. I used a chromesoft for 5 holes and then a TP5 for 4 holes. The chromesoft is a long ball but on 100yard pitch shots, it doesn't hold as well as I would like. Granted, I am sure I am not spinning it enough, but the TP5 just seems to stick a little better, even on long iron shots into the green. I hit a 6 iron into a 185 yard hole and thought it would roll off. the ball check up nicely and only rolled out 4 feet. For me, that is not a lot.

if the Project a is anything close to a TP5, I think I would make that my go to ball.

The a is spinny. You can get prior gen a for 25, much cheaper than the TP5.

spinny into the greens but not off the tee?

This is a hell of a golf ball.

I’ve been playing both the Snell Black and Reds. Really like both, but preferred the feel of the Black, but the Red was giving me better results.

Tried the new Project A recently and love it. Long and straight off the tee, great holding its line in wind, spins plenty on the greens and feels great off the putter. Think it’s my new ball this year.

  • 2 weeks later...

well, here is my review after playing 18 with the project a. Based on a 1-10 rating with 10 being the best

Feel - 8

distance - 8

short game performance around the green -

100 yards in - 6

150+ yards in - 8

I have to say, with all the hype, I expected more. It flew great off the driver when hit perfect, but the slightest mishit and the ball spun so much, it put you me in bad positions. With a gusty wind, the ball ballooned and ended up shorter than normal. this ball is not as good as i expected.

putting - 9. sound/feel is great

my overall rating is a 7...….not hitting this perfect off the tee causes it to fly off course more than normal....

used a TP5 on holes 19-27 was a much different experience.

project a is just ok....not great

Well, the previous version of the Project a was the best ball I ever played. Haven't tried the new version but they are next in my purchase queue - got a few boxes of Snell and Srixon on my desk... This ball was stupid-long for me off the driver. I am not surprised one bit that there was a price hike on it. It has been a huge sleeper for Taylormade and I can only assume it's popularity will grow.

Has anyone applied for their free box of (A) after buying 4 boxes? I bought 8 boxes and tried getting two free ones in the same time period, but it output the same exact 'freebie' code for the website, so I'm not sure how TM will process it? or see it as a 'double order'?

PRDYMTC TOUR  9.8° + UB6 / PRDYMTC  15°@16 + UB6 / MVRKTC 18° + UB8 G430 26°@25+ IZ95 / FRGD TEC5-G + MODUS115 / MD5TC / SPDR EXTC + GPS

they just count to 4 unique code you txt them. Once you hit 4, your info (email and phone #) is used to validate the free dozen being sent. They did same thing with 16 version.

I've already posted here on this but I just wanted to come back and say again that this is a helluva ball. Solid all the way around.

It is. But, their yellow is awful looking.

To each their own... but I have to whole-heartedly disagree. I love the Yellow/greenish look.

Wow, that is surprising. Atleast the TM Engineer chimed in saying it's yellow/green to stand out in the early morning and later evening reduced sun light.

I might give these a shot after my V1s and CS run out. As long as I can get them to stop on the green, I should be happy with them.

If you're having trouble stopping on green with v1 or cs, (a) will help you quite a bit. It helped me alot.

Thats good to hear! Last round my wedges were running out a bit too much. I would land 2' short of the hole and still had a 6' putt left! Greens are also fast after the heat here in NJ too. If this ball can be controlled the same or better I will enjoy the $ savings!

I was playing a yellow (a) that I found on the course when I holed out of the sand for the first time! So, I like that yellow ball! Haven't played an (a) since then but might go get some soon.

the project (a) doesn't spin much more than any other ball. its ok, but the issue with it is in the wind. its NOT a good wind ball at all.....the rest of the performance is good though. flies just as far as a TP5, feels fine off a mid iron shot.....runs out well on pitch and runs....its a solid ball but the wind performance needs to improve

I dont play much in the wind, mostly tree lined courses, so thats not a huge concern for me.

I play on courses that are lines as well but not every hole. even a 12mph wind plays tricks with this ball...that's not a ton of wind. good luck with it...ill use mine until I run out but there are many balls out there in this price range which cut through the wind better...

you may be right about wind, but (a) spins better for me.

luckily, playing in So. Cal, I don't get much wind here.

The yellow on the 2018 is new, no? I know the 2017 has a yellow but I mean the shade of yellow. Looks different to me.
