Staufs?

You have a grinder ? Get a good grinder in the 200-300 range and your life will never be the same. I used to make espresso all the time but after getting the moccamaster why bother.

Believe it or not the best brew beans that my wife and I ever had is the willow blend from Starbucks. And we tried it all. When we found out it discontinued we bought excess of 10 bags and put it in the freezer.

I grind fresh beans before brewing. It makes a world of a difference. Only seconds to do. Saves me 15 minutes from waiting in line at Starbucks and my coffee taste way better.

Staufs is a local coffee roaster in Columbus, Ohio. I grew up drinking their coffee back home. They were locally roasting coffee at a very high level before it was cool. I have tried most of the highly rated local roasters in Phoenix (cartel coffee, Press Coffee, etc.) and none of them stack up to Staufs.

You can order Staufs online now through their website (staufs.com) and they ship nationwide. My favorite is the Sumatra Vienna roast. Bold, deep, full flavor and no bitterness to speak of. It's worth giving them a shot. People in Columbus have been raving about them for 30 years now. They roast as good of coffee as I have ever found.

Any recommendation on a low acid, medium body selection from them?

Thanks.

I tend to like more full bodied coffees so I haven't had many of their medium body roasts. My go to was always the French or Vienna Sumatra, but, they can't get the Sumatra beans right now so I have had to branch out.

This past week my parents brought the Java Estate beans on vacation with us. It was great. I actually ordered a couple lbs of it after drinking it. It's a low acidity, full bodied roast. Wasn't quite as strong/bold as the Sumatra beans I typically buy, but, was great. I actually think I like it more.

The one medium bodied I know I have had (and liked alot) is the Stauf's House blend. It is listed as moderate acidity though. This is one I would probably start with though.

The Stauf's people are super nice, you can always call them though and I'm sure they will point you in the right direction. I have been going there with my parents since I was a little kid (yeah my parents let me start drinking coffee when I was 6 or so...). The guy who started Stauf's is incredibly smart. For whatever reason he fell in love with coffee. He has since sold Stauf's, but, they kept him on to oversee and consult on the roasting. The quality did not change at all after the sale (it was a number of years ago). He now spends most of his time traveling the world consulting with roasters of all sizes.

I am ok with a fuller body, just can't do high acid coffee.

I think I may grab a couple pounds of the Java Estate and give it a try. I love Sumatra, just a little much for a daily

Thanks.

The Grandview Ave location in Grandview is the original location. It's where I always went as it's the closest location to where I used to live.

There are a few downtown now as well. I haven't been to them. The locations downtown were a different coffee shop, which is now the parent company of Stauf's. I believe they have rebranded all of them as Stauf's. I assume you can buy beans at the newer downtown locations but am not positive on that (they rebranded those as Stauf's since I have moved to Phoenix).

Resurrecting an old thread because is Coffee!!!!!

I got a large cup of coffee with my usual add of 2 shots of espresso this morning at the Portland International Airport (Oregon) and it is lacking. Lacking in flavor and lacking in caffeine. UGH. Will be filling my cup with the coffee in the United Club because it is much better than the cup I got. Thanks for listening for my first world problems. :D

The original Tanzanian Peaberry I had in like the late 90's.

Amazing. I had some when it first "returned" (early 2000's?) and I was dubious that's what it really was.

It takes forever to start over again with any coffee plants (and they were wiped out somehow) but esp. these poor, needy plants compared to mass production varieties took even longer, requiring shade from banana trees or else the banana roots wouldn't mellow the flavor...

I drink more coffee than water. On the course, I stick to fruit juices. On "No Golf" days, I easily go through a 12 cups pot per day.

Been doing it since I retired, 15 years ago....I'm 75

I'm with ya on the no frills crap, Folgers for me too. When ya drink coffee like we do that fancy stuff can get pricey.

If you want to call it that, the only thing "fancy" about my coffee is that I drink it black with 3-4 drops of homemade vanilla....Made with Black Rum instead of vodka.

Winter is here so it's heavy java time again!

I've been strung out on Starbuck$ Peppermint Mocha's so this morning I crunched up three small candy canes and put them in the bottom of my drip basket with grounds on top.

The result was a hint of peppermint so I added a little cocoa mix and voila!

Against my better judgment I’m going to post this.

Tanzanian Peaberry is my favorite bean too. ( less to go around for me by posting this lol. )

I love very close to the little river roasting company . They roast theirs in house. They import etc. so it’s literally straight from individual farmers to their roster which is behind the counter in plain view while of works.

They are out of T. Peaberry at the moment. But it will be back in a few weeks. I drink it exclusively when it’s in stock. I use it for espresso , and the thick rich creme it puts out is the best I’ve ever tried.

Look them up online. You can buy by the pound from their website. Very small company , that literally beats out 2 Starbucks here ( swill lol ).

SK99DVPUSSJF.jpgLa Floresta Honey is probably the best I've had. Single estate in Pijao, Colombia. Need to check the quality first hand.

AF4FCJZATNMK.jpgA close second is Finca Dos Jefes in Boquete, Panama. It incredible how they can change the flavors by the drying process and roasting. It's definitely better if some of the drying takes place with the fruit on the bean. Then need a medium or light roast to let the flavors come through. Its like a totally different drink from the burnt low quality stuff normally served in the US.

On a different note, my local coffee shop was rated #4 on the Food and Wine best coffee shop in America list for 2019. I go there with my wife weekly and they make incredible drinks. Owners are very nice as well. The Best Coffee Shops in America: 2019

I thought I new coffee until I went to San Francisco. They turn it into an art form. It was three years ago I had it and it is still the cleanest best cup I have ever drank. Wish I could remember how they did it. They explained it to me at the time but I don't remember now. It was some little coffee shop in Sausalito.

Drink Bulletproof daily now. Good coffee but there are lots out there. Just what I have been drinking for awhile now. Usually the french roast or mentalist blends.

Bit of a coffee snob but not everything has to be fancy. Daily routine is counter culture, ground fresh, into a Bonavita drip. But can also enjoy a large Dunkin coffee with cream and sugar during roadtrips.

Yes, we discovered Stauf's at the North Market, Silver, which I would guess you've been to before you moved. A unique shopping experience.... https://www.northmarket.com/portfolio-item/staufs-coffee-roasters/

We do a lot of French Press at home now, so we try several kinds, grinding our own beans.

We tend to get a lot of our coffee from another company here in Ohio, SilverBridge Coffee Company https://silverbridgecoffee.com/
