Bubba's wedges and putter

Stainless will rust. Had to send 2 redwood stainless Putters back with the starshot finish. Both had significant rust. Over the years lots of their irons have rusted in cavities. Send them back, no comment are just replaced.

No stainless will not rust - that's the basic definition of stainless. If the something gets impregnated within the surface that can rust along with water/fertilizer/salt, you can get some induced corrosion but the stainless itself doesn't rust on its own.

Sorry, stainless steel will 100% rust. It is just resistant due to chromium in the metal. It just slows the process.

Sorry, no it won't. The chromium reacts with oxygen in the environment and forms a clear thin passivation layer made of CrO. Because of this, the iron cannot react to form FeO (or rust). Even if that layer is damaged, the passivation layer will re-form instantly since chromium is an intermetallic molecule disbursed throughout the entire material (not just at the surface). There is no time dependence on this.

If a stainless head is showing rust, carbon steel or some other rustable metallic has become lodged in the surface and reacts with water, oxygen, and some electrolyte like salts in fertilizer to form rust of the foreign material.

This^ Putters are generally made of 303 stainless which can rust.

That^ See my response to Quigley above. 303 Stainless steel will not rust on it's own. 303 is a sulfurized form of 302/304 (18-8) and is used in putters because the addition of sulfur makes it more easily machined.

Wow. I actually feel a bit smarter by stopping in on this thread. Throwing out some serious metallurgy tidbits. Thanks.

It's a Custom Carbon Steel putter boys!

That putter looks like it has two different necks welded together. There's evidence of a weld and the mill marks go different directions. Seems kind of odd though... can't image what would be behind that??

...a sprinkler head perhaps? Maybe a tree? Looks like it wasn't a clean break either way, LOL

Custom neck from ping WRX. I think the story goes they took a long neck and took a chunk out to get the weight and toe flow correct. The info is on hear somewhere.

Kinda hoping this is the year a lefty finally wins the US Open. Been a minute

Here is the link of the interview with Ping:

Does he still bend his 60 to like 62 or 63? I can’t remember what or where I saw that.

After his win in Cromwell I'm a post interview, he mentioned how he opened up his 63 degree wedge on number 18 to hit the winning approach shot

"No problem. Win on the line. 100 out. Let's just open up the 60 and hit her in there. Oh it's a 63. No problem. I'll just take her to 80 percent instead of 75."
