l cut them open , so you don't have to!

What do manufacturers call it when they sprinkle little bits of colored material into the core of the ball?

Itâs almost like they sweep up the factory floor and throw the scraps from premium balls in there.

I donât see how this could help the performance? In metal forging , adding random materials would make the metal weaker.

Probably just recycled bits of whatever to help add as a filler.

I was really enjoying a 2015 B330-RXS today until I missed the green on a 200 yard par 3 that hit a cart path and was never found. I really wanted to cut her open and post for you all!

Another ball that performed excellent in the wind.

With a special thanks to grm24, I present to you a deep look into the similarities between the AVX and the Titleist Prestige. The Prestige cover is complete carbon copy of the cover from the new AVX. Inside , the thickness of the layers is pretty much identical as well.

The only difference could be the Presitge seems to cut a little easier or smoother on the core. It’s plausible the AVX is slightly higher in compression but honestly hard to tell from sound or feel of hitting either.

If I were an AVX fan, I would 100% be trying the Prestige considering the price point. As a side offering , I also cut open a K3 for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Today edition, Maxfli UFli Soft . This ball was a good performer today, and despite the look of the core being slightly off center , I putted extremely well today. Many 1 putts and a couple long droppers!

I think I like the UFli Speed Slightly better. Enjoy !

Maybe it is a bonding agent to help with the curing process?

Have you done a QST yet?

Not yet but I think I have one still new. Usually I like to cut them after I put them to good use. Maybe by next weekend.

2 for Tuesday

2015 B330-RX

2016 Snell MTB - Enjoy !

That's cool.

Are you noticing different diameters? The smell looks bigger.

most likely an effect of not cutting each ball precisely in 1/2 . The B330-RX used for the photo was probably 45% of its ball if that makes sense.

per request - here is the QST. I know with Srixon it’s hard to tell the different between the cover and 2nd layer. The cover appears to be extr thick , even more so that the K3.

My first cuts. Can't believe some website wanted to charge $100 for a 'golfball cutter' when all you need is a PVC pipe cutter. I got 2 1/2" one and I think it might be too big.

First victims are Vice Tour and Volvik DS55. I didn't think too much when I played VT and was surprised to see 3 piece.

OTOH, I LOVED DS55 as it was soft and long. and the core is a VERY soft, like a rubber eraser. Notice how smooth the cut is. I'll be looking for similar cores when I cut more balls open but this seems like a unique Volvik magic.

and I wanted to make a ball market like other website is charging $15 for. It's quite hard to get an even cut. I've tried and it wasn't too bad.

Another batch.

1. Trusty Nike 20xi-x , last version. I preferred this over RZN due to its softness.

2. Prov1x refinished version. Inside looks/feels same as regular version. cover seems like well coated too

non-refurb.

Volvik

1. Crystal and Vivid. They look like exact same ball inside. Vivid just has matte cover. Core and 2nd layer is VERY hard

2. s3 and s4. s3 is 2016 version, s4 is 2017.

Next batch will be Tmag.

Tmag.

I started golf when original Penta was released. I used it frequently and I've been accustomed to Tmag feel.

I have new Penta and PentaTP but I am not cutting those new balls just yet.

Surprising to see that TPx and Lethal looks like exactly same ball. And on first glance, RBZ and my favorite project (a) 2018 looked like a same ball but the core is different and cover thickness is noticeably different.

That TP5x is a good looking golf ball.

The TP looks like the guts of a KSIG, which isn’t a shock since the KSIG rumor was left over TM cores. If I had to guess the 2nd layer on the KSIG is a little more firm but this is very revealing.

I see the u-fli soft above. Can you cut the speed version for comparison?

Yes maybe next week. I have them but need to play with one before I sacrifice it!

So today I slice open a Yellow and Black Truvis and the layer coloring is different from the Red and White. I though they were the same year but possible the yellow and black is the 2018 , not sure . Enjoy !

You are cutting open some nice looking golf balls. Under what condition do you remove a ball from play?

These would stay in my bag a while longer.
