Finish this sentence...."You know you're in for a long day when..."

You have a 9am tee time, and the course has tee time spacing so close together that they are already 30 minutes behind when you get to the first hole.

You just described every course in the Phx area.

I left my wallet at home and didn't notice until I got to the course. That was a long day.

I have to wonder about the IQ level of the director of golf or whoever has set those times to allow this. It has ZERO benefit to the course, and just p1sses people off. I purposely avoid two courses in my area because of this.

The thing is though, do you ever see the course not packed? People must really love the course enough to still play ut

There is a course in metro detroit that does 6min intervals and puts zero dollars into the operation; they operate out of a cart barn. All their profit goes towards the course. It is always in perfect condition. People always complain about the pace yet wgen ever i play it, its always packed.

Blackheath. Love playing that course, but only if it's before 7 am.

Blackheath is one of my favorites, but yes, you need to tee off very early. But even then, when you make the turn at 9:30 you’ll be stacked up at the tee box.

I’d suggest doing WestWynd. GolfNow for $35, and a phenomenal course

I've played WestWynd and Twin Lakes as well but Blackheath is still the best. Unreal Green Complexes and great routing. It is truely one Michigan's several hidden gems

When the guy you got paired with uses his range finder for every shot and throws grass to check the wind.... even when the flag stick and trees are dead still!!

Played with a young kid, who was sporting the best equipment. Don't get wrong, he was good and hit very long, but his pre shot routine of range finder and grass toss never changes. There was no wind all day!! Also he said he has played this course once a week for two years (university student in university course). I'm sorry but if you okay a course that much, you shouldn't need the range finder anymore! I was envious of how close he could hit to the pin though.

the guy in front of you takes 10 practice swings and step up to the ball just to reset because the wind blew a little harder and starts the process all over again...

Same guy takes 10 practice swings hits his 3 wood 10 yards, then steps up with the same routine. At this point, I usually say "that routine doesn't work" or on the 3rd practice swing I say "crap you wasted that one, it was good"

When you play in a company scramble and one of your teammates tells you he only plays once a year at the company scramble.

During the same scramble, on the par 4 and 5's your teammates drives:

One doesn't reach the ladies tee.

One reaches the ladies tee but not the fairway.

One makes it past the ladies tee and the trees on the right side of the fairway and ends up in the next fairway over.

When your team shoots -2 in a scramble on a 5600 yard course.

Legitimately happened to me last week....

Walked off the course after 4 holes in 1.5 hours at twilight because of this. Full Spieth UA outfit, pre-preshot routine of club point visualization followed by excessive grass tosses, then at least 3-4 practice swings, then 2 Matt Wolff twitches over the ball, followed by OK shots. Don't get me started on the putting green shenanigans.

I played in a charity scramble a few weeks ago put on by a family I know. Had never met two of the four. They were a married couple. She had never swung a golf club in her life, the husband had played golf but I was told the night before he asked if he had to bring his own clubs. The wife putted half of her putts off the green. She would hit a 6' foot putt 30+ feet. That was still happening on the second nine, which I found odd.

'Twas a four man scramble turned two.

My question, to them, not you, would be: why even bother? A time when you have to play as a team collectively to something is no time to try a sport out, especially if everyone else has paid money to be there. I remember once my dad and I played in a similar type of best-ball thing for a local golf forum. Our team was far from going to be the winning team, but we might have had a chance at a top 5. One of the guys we were with was deathly afraid of putting. He literally couldn't get a ball to the hole. I distinctly remember we all had slashed it around on one hole and he had played okay that hole and was left with a 6 footer for par. To kind of boost him up we were like "hey X, we really need you here, let's see you make it,".....the ball didn't even make it 4 feet. Bogey. Sigh, move on. Repeat x 18.

... when by the second hole the 2 randoms you are paired with have stood on your line while removing the flag, left their shadow over the hole while you are putting, from 1 tee box up continued to talk at normal conversation levels while you are playing from the further tee box, the talking spills over to random approach shots/putts and one of the guys continually cannot track his errant shots. If I wasn't so exhausted to begin with I would have become mentally exhausted.

The worst part was despite playing well my opponent kept pace with me all freaking day. So much so that were tied going into the 18th hole par 5. Thankfully I figured out a slight correction to my swing on the 18th tee box which led to an eagle.

When you get to the pro shop to pay and there's a sign that says CART PATH ONLY DUE TO HEAVY RAIN

....and then it rains 1" of water on the course at the turn, and you play the back 9 in swamp conditions.

Still broke 100 tho, so take that golf gods.

As Yogi Berra put it, "Nobody goes there anymore; it's too crowded."

When the three guys you are paired with have brought so much beer with them that not only will it not all fit in the built-in coolers on their carts plus the two portable coolers they brought and put in the cart baskets, but that they ask you if they could put some of it in the coolers on your cart.

My God man, haha

When you’re paired up in league with a pair of “max” handicaps (giving 2 strokes almost every hole).

Not only are you going to lose, but it’s going to take 3+ hours.
