Shipping is usually $25. Wait time from order placement to delivery is largely dependent on options (finish, hand softening, welded neck, etc). If byron has the head in stock and doesn't need to send it out for a special finish, then it can be as short as 2 weeks. If there are a lot of custom options selected like those references above, it can take months. I had a stock, glass blast finish stainless 612 ordered and to my door in 2 weeks a few years ago...but have heard others who have waited 6-9 months when ordering a putter with a finish byron had to outsource (though that's rare). For some of the finishes he used to wait until he had a batch (maybe 10 or so) that customers ordered before he sent them out, which contributed to the wait time. Not sure if that's still the case.

Does anyone know how long the wait time is for one of these orders would be on a DH89? Also, do you know if they include shipping in their price?

Depends on how busy he is and the customs you want. Generally 1 to 2 months and yes shipping included. What customs are you wanting?

I don't want anything with too many options. I've been trying to buy a used one for around $350 but I figured I might as well make my own for only $150 more.

I was thinking a stainless glass blast DH89 350 g standard LL 34 inch with a custom stamp.

Does anyone know if I choose not to have the hand milling, what the finish on the putter face looks like?

I purchased a 615 back in the beginning of March and received it maybe a week and a half ago. Steve told me they were waiting on the machinist to mill the putters - that was the setback for me. I also purchased the B-17 cover, which was supposed to ship with the putter and was added cost, but it didn't...still waiting on that.

While it's a beautiful piece of art, a lovely feeling putter, and I will never sell it - I'm not sure I'd purchase again.

I just ordered one and was quoted 8 weeks. I posted years ago on here about their terrible communication and that is still the case today. They could really use some assistance in the customer service department, that being said I still ordered and still look forward to its eventual arrival.

What is strange is the fact that its one way or the other. Either the person who purchases is extremely happy and gets good communication, or like j-rob and myself (and others obviously) where it was almost not worth the time or money. I love the putter and will never get rid of it - but I did not have a good experience and won't be purchasing again.

I was torn on whether to order or not. The unprofessional and at times very fuzzy communication was definitely a negative, but then again I’m a ho. You see which one won out.

I’m just hoping I receive what I requested. I’m not convinced that the rep paid attention at all when handling my order. Saw recently where they changed someone’s stamping around for no apparent reason.

I think it depends a little on a buyers expectations. This is a one man shop and he’s busy, time spent answering emails or the phone means time not spent building putters. I placed my order, waited, my order showed up. There was a slight issue (nothing incorrect about the order, just a small flaw) and then the order was very quickly redone to perfection. In the meantime I was told to keep and use the slightly flawed one and then just hold onto it permanently.

Thats how Byron operates and it’s good to know that going in. This isn’t a hold-your-hand and guide you through the process experience. Other makers do a good job with that if that’s what you want. Byron keeps quality high and prices low by focusing his time on building putters. I still think Byron offers an amazing value, it’s barely more than many OTR putters these days.

Then again, I’m used to this type of experience. I once ordered a custom pool cue, waited 9 months and then one day it arrived. Or the time i ordered a custom pocket knife and waited about 9 years....until the day I got a bill in the mail for it (these guys don’t do email or internet, that meant it was done) which I paid and it showed up a week later. So I’ve been through the place an order and just wait process plenty of times before and for way longer than it took with Byron.

Also, I beleive turnaround time is very finish dependent. An in house finish like glass blast on SS is always going to be one of the quickest options. If you want something that needs to get sent out I beleive they need to be batched until there are enough of one finish type to be sent.

I was just about to say, if you don’t t think Byron’s turnaround time is fast then go order a custom pool cue haha.

Right?! The 9 months I waited was actually really quick by pool cue standards. I’m about 2 years into the 12 year wait on the Southwest list, haha!

While I do see your point, I would like to make a clarification. I do not expect to have my hand held through this process. I needed no guidance as I knew what I wanted. However when I send very clear (and minimal) specs I expect them to be noted and a price sent so that I may pay. I received emails back which included pricing for features I never mentioned and no confirmation on any of the other specs. The math was done incorrectly and was overall very unprofessional; it was the email equivalent of making a deal on a napkin. Also for the record the putter I ordered, while not being nearly their highest end work, is still double what a high-end OTR putter would be.

With ALL of that being said, I still have high hopes that it will arrive and blow me away. I truly hope that it proves my whining to be unnecessary.

Well I own 10 left handed Byrons that I have purchased over the past 10 years, with seven of them being new from his reps. I have never had an issue with quoted wait time or communication. Matter of fact, on three occasions I was contacted directly by Byron to be sure on the specs of the putters. I know on two of the three conversations we spoke for over 20 minutes about my job as a coach and a few Scotty stories. Through emails and posting occasionally on Putter Talk, he isn’t a man of many words. Usually a yes, no, or thank you, but he was very personable on the phone.

I am not saying the OP or others haven’t had legitimate issues, just pointing out my experience. As others have stated, he is truly a one man band with I think two reps that take custom orders in the states and he also does more stock putters for the Asian market. For me, the quality is second to none and obviously with the number of putters I have accumulated, I can wait on the production time.

Well I must have the work luck. I’ve only every gotten to speak with a rep (that I won’t name) and the emails read like shorthand. Sporadic replies and no true confirmation on anything specific.

Guys, if there's anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to message me. I am the second of 2 reps for Byron here in the states. I have had orders placed that take a simple 2-4 weeks and then even myself I waited 14 mos. one time on a handmade. It all depends on customization, finish and parts needed. I know this sounds funny, but Byron has actually ran out of plumbers necks or other standard parts and it can take some time to get in. Steve stays very busy, and he is extremely knowledgeable about Byrons work and styles. I try to respond pretty quick, but even sometimes myself, i get a day or two behind because of running my custom woodworking business. I will try my best to see that my customers get great outcomes. Email or message anytime. [email protected]

So a tour satin finish with high polish face and sole. Site dot. Literally 8 total characters of stampings with no paintfill shouldn't take that long....

Sorry to say this but it sounds like some of you are comfortable making excuses for subpar customer service and absurdly long wait times. I don’t understand why in this day and age any of this is acceptable. Nine months for a custom pool cue? Seriously, that’s utterly ridiculous, but God love you for having the patience of a saint. Golf clubs are no different.

Problems sourcing materials, running out of parts? Do a better job managing your business then. The only thing I’m waiting nine months for is a baby to be born.

I ordered a 615 mist finish in September, w/ polished face and sole and got the finished product 8-9 days later. Weird. I think contacting Byron's email directly is the way to get things going quickly, that and a complete diagram of EVERYTHING to scale for a visual design reference. Not just describing what to stamp or vague ideas, but an actual picture/schematic of the desired end product.

Somebody is selling a carbon DH89 on the bay right now for 2-300$ more than I could order that exact one new!!! Maybe it's a 'convenience buy' price, no waiting for turnaround times!

I’m continuously amused by the amount that some people ask for some things, not only on eBay but here as well.
