One more round in the books and this will be my gamer for some time to come. Long off the tee, great in the wind, durable, excellent green side spin

4 shots stood out yesterday. 146 yrd par 3, right side pin thats protected by a huge tree thats on the right side off the tee box. I cut a 9i into it, inside 15 ft perfectly pin high. Next par 3, 213yrds into a light breeze. Hit a towering 4i, I started it left side of the green but it only cut 3-4 yards so landed well left of the pin, but carried 210 and backed up a foot. Short 330yrd par 4, hit a laser with my driving iron, had 77yrds in. On 18 didnt realize how narrow the green was and l put one on a hill left of the pin . Left myself a short sided elevated chip (maybed 6-7 feet above the green), green sloping away as well as sloping down back to front. I didnt think I was going to be able to keep it within 15-20ft, hit a low spinner 10ft above the hole and it managed to check hard and stayed above the hole, missed the downhill putt but was happy with the result either was as it just as easily could have went in. Now if it could only help my putt better!

Prefer the performance of the XV and the feel of the regular Z Star.

They narrowed the performance gap with the current gen. The XV now feels a little better, and the Z-Star doesn't lack distance or spin too much off the tee. I game the Z-star now after gaming the prior XV/B330. Ball feels incredible around the greens. I have around 16 dozen now. Wanted to buy more, but curious about the new lineup thinking they might release more performance 6-packs when they drop.

They are both excellent golf balls.

If they do performance packs on the new ones I will continue to stockpile Srixons.

I could be totally content with the current ones however, and feel I probably should have bought about 20 dozen more.

I was certain I was going full Snell after this year but at $20 bucks for such a good ball...

Sorry Dean. Sincerely. The value was too much to pass up.

I bought a dozen of each when they were on sale. I wish I would have bought more. They are close enough to my gamer that I can use them for practice without any noticeable difference...so I can do stupid stuff like with them that I wouldn't want to try with $40/dz balls...like trying Bubba shots with a 75 yard hook over water.

I have 5 dozen left of last release of the XV performance packs. I actually have been trying to reduce my overload off balls so if you really need more we can work something out.

Basically would want my cost plus shipping, not looking to make a profit. :)

I usually play bridgestone b330's, but saw this deal at academy sports for $20/dz, too good to pass up. I picked up 2 dozen, great ball. Played 3 rounds last week with them, in the running to replace my dwindling b330 stash.

Love this golf ball, there was one version which was a tad firm off all clubs but they really have stepped up for each version after, this ball has only got better. Undoubtedly the best ball in the wind as well as having the best durability.

I actually need to grab a few more, they've currently got a deal for the 2 sleeve packs on at my course so I'll grab a couple this weekend.

How similar do the 2 models play to each other? Where are the greatest differences? Have played the XV the last 4 years and love it off the tee and into the wind. Wish it just had a smidge more bite around the green with the chips and pitches.

Wonder if I need to try the XV I play the Z right now but I think I should give the XV a fair shot. Anyone played both and liked one or the other?

I've tried both but have for years now played the XV. I just prefer the feel of XV, the Z feels mushy to me. Also tried the Q Star but didn't like it for the same reason. Nothing wrong with the performance.

Edit: Also second the durability. Just played a round with an XV that I had already played a few holes with and after putting it through a ball washer it looks like nothing ever happened and ready for more action. That is despite giving it some serious full whacks with a wedge.

How do these feel off the putter compared to the regular Z-Star? I currently switch between the Z-Star, Chrome Soft, and TM RBZ Urethane's that were at Walmart for a good price. Wanted to try a harder ball, so I tried a ProV1X for a few holes, but didn't like how it felt hard off the putter.

XV to me feels harder like the V1X off putter.

The standard Z-Star feel so great around the greens if you like a softer ball. It still manages to fly like a V1X off driver. Far less punishing if you hit one thin with an iron than the XV also.

XV does seem to be a tad longer off driver but they both are long anyway.

The 2017/2018 XV is not nearly as firm as previous generations. I like it now where before it was too much for my swing speed.

I think Srixon did a great job finding the sweet spot on firm but not punishing on mis hits

I actually find the zstars wear out after 8 holes are so and get scuffed. I mean at $20/dz I don’t care. Generally I don’t get more than 10 holes out of a ball anyway.

I also feel I hit the ball about a club shorter with the xv? Anyone else find that?

Only a tiny bit shorter than the XV..bit no. Actually I find them to be very durable. They do stain very easy though if you don't clean the grass off after a round.

For those who have used the Z Star and z star xv, can you comment on the playability differences. I love then star.on every shot but the driver....into the wind it's just ok, down wind or no wind = pretty good.

Zstar is softer and spins more off all clubs than the XV. XV is longer off driver than zstar. Zstar has more greenside spin. XV is the better wind ball. Those are the differences imo.

I have always been a XV player (4 years), and was also curious how the Z Star played. I tested it out last week in hot and humid conditions. I found it to play quite similar to the XV actually. Was it softer? A little, but not as soft as a Pro V or TP5. Didn't really notice much difference off tee. Very similar ball flight and trajectory. Irons had a touch more spin. Around the greens felt maybe a tad softer. I need to play around with the original again, but so far I am not seeing big differences between them.

I used a normal Z star the other day but I primarily use the XV, and the Z star is a great ball, soft but not overly so, has a great feel off all the clubs. I like how it performed off irons and wedges especially with a 3/4 action, very good control, off the driver it felt great and was getting out there. It really is a great ball.

But I just find the XV to do everything a bit better, and I know this is completely subjective but it really has just something extra over the normal Z star for me. It feels crisp but not hard like some of the previous versions did, off the driver its a beast, iron shots do not move in the wind for me and stop after a short hop, wedge shots too but they can come back if you really want, what some may find offputting is the click off the putter, especially if it's a milled putter and not an insert.

I can't speak to the XV but i stocked up on the regular Z when that $20 deal hit.... I'll be playing them over the Pro V1 until I run out, although as nice as the Z has felt I may just start playing them regularly since it's hard to ever find a deal on Titleist anything. Perhaps I should have grabbed some of the XV's to try out as well.... next time :D

I could be wrong, but Srixon seems to run huge reductions right before an updated model comes out.

Yea, I was definitely thinking that they were moving towards a 2018 or 2019 ball. I'm okay playing a bit of an older ball though. I feel like every time I turn around to buy new balls, there's a new model these days.

It is due for an upgrade for 2019. Current generation was released early 2017
