2018 Tour B RX(S) vs. QST

I rented an indoor sim today and hit the QST, the RX, and the RXS. I was not happy with the launch angle of the CS and AVX when I last checked in about a week ago. So I went back to comparing both my recent gamers of the last several years.

I hit my 3W off the deck, as I hit the 3W much more consistently than my D. My sample size was about 25 hits each, and the numbers were very close. Here's carry and total rollout for each:

QST 167/ 201

RX 171/ 200

RXS 170/ 203

Further, the average launch angle of both the QST and RX was 11.3°, while the average launch angle of the RXS was 11.9°.

I am tempted to think that this is way too close to call, and the QST, once again, wins by not losing greatly, specially at $15/doz. less than the Bridgestone balls. However, cost is not my primary decision maker in this case.

So here's the thing for my situation. There are 4 driver holes at my club where total distance is predicated upon flying some sort of hill. On these 4 holes, make or break is, as Joe Biden once remarked ;-), a BFD.

I'll of course be trying all the balls off all the clubs in the next 6 weeks or so. Just wondering if anyone — specially those in a similar position — has any thoughts on the matter.

And, BTW: it appears that the latest Bridgestone RX(S) balls have lost the interior dimple. Are my eyes that bad, or have the dimples gone away?

I have noticed over the years that in firm playing conditions, which are the norm here, that greenside spin between quality tour style 3 piece balls is marginal. I see the differences more when playing out of the desert area of Phoenix. Playing in Las Vegas last week I felt I could give the edge to the CSX18, but now that I am back home, there is just not a $15 difference in performance between the 2 for the course I play regularly. I do feel the QST and CSX18 mask my bad driver swings better than the Tour B's, ZStars, or ProV1s.

Your numbers are very similar to mine. I didn't love the QST, and I didn't find it long, either. Although I suspect my 3w launch might be higher. Dunno.

I've got a particular hole in mind that sounds like yours. Beat the top of the hill and you'll roll. Hit into the uphill and you're screwed. Turns a par 5 that's gettable in 2 to pushing hard for that 3rd shot to get on.

Try Wilson Fg Tour. For my launch and speed, I was surprised how it wasnt a situation where I couldn't compress it.

Also try a Ufli soft and speed.

Plenty spin, but very long.

Gonna revive an old thread here.

Did a similar comparison myself recently. Not as scientific as yours, but I wanted to be on the course hitting real golf shots.

For me, the RX won out because it seemed noticeably straighter off the tee than the other two. This would seem to make sense due to the lower spin. I wanted to love the q star due to price but it felt too soft and had too much spin.

I played the QST last year and it was fine but I’ve moved to the RXS this year as I like the feel better. Cover seems a touch softer. It’s doing everything I want it to do.

I only play 35-40 rounds a year so cost isn’t a big deal but I would like it if it was always priced at $35 a dozen, not just their current promo price.

I can't comment on the QST, but I recently moved to the RXS after several years playing RX. The RXS is giving me a bit more greenside spin, as advertised. I just wish it came in yellow!

Played the Bridgestone B RX for the first time today and played a game of best ball for 5 holes with the B RX and the Snell MTB. I have to agree that the B RX was noticeably longer and less spin off the driver than the MTB with little to no difference in short game and putting. Just might be worth the price difference for the extra driver yards and softer feel.
