They can't help themselves. Just when "normal" aesthetically pleasing clubs (P790, 770, 750, 730, UDI) sell well they bring out something as awful as looking as this. Just can't help it. Black is fine. Honking eyesore of a weight and Callaway tat GAPR?? Seriously see of the folk in their design & marketing offices must be on ALL the drugs.

It seems TM felt they needed to do something to create a driving iron/UDI replacement that at least 'appears' to be something more than just a 2-iron addition to the P-790 set. People must realize by now that the current P-790 UDI really is just a 17* P-790 2-iron with a UDI stamping and a lightweight (85-gram) graphite stock shaft that many players haven't liked!.

 

Hopefully the one forthcoming is not simply going to be the same 790 clubhead in a darker color with an adjustable hosel added. However, the only thing we can say for sure right now is that this latest 790 UDI at least 'looks somewhat different' than the rest of the 3-PW P-790 iron set.. Don't know if you'll really get anything more from it in terms of actual performance than the one being discontinued, but expect to pay more for this one than the first 790 UDI. An adjustable hosel alone will allow TM to justify a higher Retail price!

 

Could the 'GAPR' designation shown on the clubhead be an acronym for GAP Refinement? Is it there to indicate this one is 'adjustable' enough to allow you eliminate any distance gaps created by adding a driving iron to your set? There may also be more than just (1) one 'standard loft' offered too. Note that the club in the pic is a 'LO', so perhaps a medium, and a high loft/trajectory newer UDI to be offered by TM as well.

Based on this spy photo I think I will continue to search for the current p790 udi to compliment my p790 long irons.

It doesn't appear to have a toe screw like the previous model. Maybe a hollow design with the weight proportioned for even lower spin?

 

It isn't very pleasing to the eye, remove the graphics and the finish and we could potentially see great sales results in a year when it should be released..

GAPR (i'm reading it as gapper). I hope that's not some kind of play on the word gap... meaning it's filling a gap in the top of your bag? I guess the dude that branded the SLDR (i always called it slider) got the lead on this project as well.

 

It may stand for something full of marking garbage, but it's a pretty outdated. I don't understand why they can't just continue branding them as UDI's.
