Being happy with that you have.

Like many of us I love to bst equipment. The thought process goes like this; I see a Vokey wedge for sale and start thinking that my mint Cleveland wedges aren’t good enough. I see a set of Miura irons and think my Mizuno irons aren’t good enough.

I’m an analyst by trade and want to immediately dive into the details of grooves, forging process, benefit analysis of cast vs forged, performance gains or losses potential, etc. An hour later I’m completely wrapped around my axel in indecision.

The irony is that I don’t play more that 6-8 times a year. I can buy a club new today and it will be near condition a year from now. It just doesn’t seem like I’m ever just happy with what I have.

Do you ever feel like this? Have you been able to turn it off? Are you just happy with what you have?

The more I play, the less I think about (new) equipment.

The less I play, the more I'm prone to fill that hole thru shopping.

Take the blade vs CB debate. The common denominator amongst most people here is that they play forged irons. Having those debates gives us all a chance to talk about our clubs. Nobody really cares who "wins" or "loses" the debates. We're all just fulfilling our subconscious desire to think about our clubs and about actually playing golf.

We'd all rather be playing golf.

The point at which you'd rather be on GolfWRX than actually be playing is a sign you've become mixed up. I'd bet many fall into that trap. But they can all be saved. ;)

It's a slippery slope and I agree with everyone's comments. As a "hobby" it's fun to tinker with equipment. Truth however is unless it's a well thought out change it's probably not going to do your game much good. Last two seasons I forced myself to pick a putter that works and stick with it no matter what. My putting stats have improved dramatically, what a shock!

If you’re playing 6-8 times a year and worrying about this, then yes, you are officially a crazy person.

It has nothing to do with happiness for me. I have to see the value and return when making a discretionary purchase.

How are you able to see the return playing only 8 times a year?

As an analyst I would think you would see that.

I do see that, it’s what keeps me from buying... most of the time.

I agree that the less we play, for whatever reason(s) we WRXers tend to do things to stay connected to the game.

Spending time on here...…….. and buying things...……..and obsessing...……...just happens as a means to fill the

need. I don't see anything wrong with it; there's a lot worse things a person can do.

Never thought of it that way, but it's true, when I'm not playing I'm consumed on getting new irons and how it would improve my game when in actually the way to improve is to play !!!! Came close a few times pulling the trigger on a new set of irons, just can't seem to justify it in my head, mostly I don't see them improving my game enough to justify the expense, I'd rather spend a fraction of that cost and play a nice course !!!!

I think I'm at the point after 2 years chopping and changing, to stick with what I have and to only change the clubs once I hit my target i.e. for me right now is to get below 18, then I might reward myself with new clubs, then after I get below 9 another set and so on and so forth.

I find myself looking or wondering from time to time, and may even try something out out occasionally, but I always stick to a hard and fast rule that if it doesn’t have a dramatic improvement over what I have it doesn’t find a spot in the bag.

I have close to zero interest in new clubs. I tend to actually wear clubs out before I change them. Once I find clubs that work I stick with them and don't worry about the fact there could possibly be something marginally better.

I knew there was a reason I liked this guy!

You could carbon date some of the clubs in my bag. It's not for lack of funding or interest, I'm just in the "if it's not significantly better, than why bother?" camp.

I do get to demo all of the latest/greatest as I play with gear nuts. My one buddy has played 8 sets of irons THIS SEASON. I've hit every new set he brings! Me and my shovels are still taking his skins money fairly regularly.

Other than adding an Epic driver head, I haven't changed clubs in a few years now....yes, I'm a reformed Club Ho.

Over the 30+ years I've played, and as evidenced by my 'inventory' of clubs (at least 4 complete bags, plus numerous other drivers, wedges, putters) learned that while 'latest' is new tech, doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

If want to be a 'value' club ho, good rule is just by the just previous model by your OEM of choice when the latest comes out...there's a good amount of cash to be saved, and you can ho to your heart's desire.

I like the set I play now and have plenty of backups if want to look at something different.

In long run, not worth it, especially if you play as infrequently as stated.

Being happy with what you've got is basically un-American, but I know what you mean.

I do keep clubs a long time, though, because I conceptualize the set configuration club-by-club according to what kinds of shots that I face and what

kind of shots I can realistically hit. A new set should be good for ten years. And don't buy anything "off the-shelf." You want to order your irons, for example, individually as you want each one and with reference to your other clubs.

I'm in a new bag this season, and given my age it's likely for the last time.

Other than replacing my worn wedges, I haven't bought clubs in awhile until I recently bought a new putter even though I've been pretty very well with my current gamer. Anyway, played a round with my new putter the other day and putted horribly, even though I put on a clinic tee-to-green. Idk what I was thinking....

Last season was new club year. Most of my clubs were a decade old (except drivers...as I had driver disease). Some, like my putter and wedges, were more than 12-13 years old.

I spent a lot of time finding the right gear last season and I was glad when I was done. Now all I worry about is swapping out shafts from my small inventory when my swing gets a bit more power as the season progresses.

I did add a Muira wedge this year, but it was a great deal I couldn't pass up. And it's become a go-to tool that replaced my trusty Vokey. But other new clubs? No interest. I'm certain I'm not getting everything out of the driver I have. If I ever get to the point where I think that driver is holding me back from some real yardage, I'll buy something new...but I put the odds of that at 10%

Play. Forget club disease, as the only cure is to love what you have.

I'm more likely to buy irons than any other clubs in the bag. I recently ordered the AP1 718 irons to replace my RSi 1s, which I brought back after the F7 single length trial, which replaced the RSI 1s, which were replaced by the AP1 716s, which replaced the RSi 1s. In two years I had 3 sets of clubs that have replaced my RSi 1s which replace my G30s... I think... But my driver, a M2 2017 replaced a 913 D3 only last year and will be in the bag for an indefinite time. My hybrids were purchased about 2 years ago new but were old tech, Cobra Baffler XLs 3,4,5 which replace the G30 hybrids. Bought the five to replace the RSi 5 iron. No desire to replace them. Had G30s woods as well but got rid of them after a season and went back to the G15 3 and 5 woods of old. They will be in the bag until they break. Putters? kind of like irons. Was a big Ping fan but switch to a Bullseye with some success but going to replace it with a Fang in the V-Line series.

Saying all this I want to say no more new clubs for a few years because I'm happy with that you have. Is that possible? doubt it if I stay on the equipment forum.

I realize I'm the minority here but I find it hard to find new equipment that I do like. Most of my clubs are old compared to everyone one else. I know my distances so when I do change I'm trying to find a club that goes a little higher or fits my gaps a little better. To me if it doesn't look good, sound good, feel good and perform well then it doesn't stay long. Over the years I have played a lot of different equipment and wasted a lot of money too.

After spending years on the BST I've discovered ..... My handicap has not changed one iota with new clubs clubs.

Has made no difference at all. So I'm calling quits on BST for a while.

Every time I hit my MP-18’s I’m completely content. At this point, they’ll likely outlive me. Top of the bag is set for the foreseeable future as well, as is the putter. Just don’t see enough of a performance/technology boost in those areas to justify any replacements there.

OTOH, my Vokey wedges will likely be replaced in the next several months, but only for the sake of fresher grooves.

I am happy with the clubs I have. If anything I will mostly test out new drivers.

I used to fiddle with my bag all the time. I bought new irons every year which would lead to buying other new stuff to fill the gaps in my bag...

What I have finally realized is that hitting it farther is not always the best thing. I have clubs now that fit my yardages well. So, now I am more likely to replace a worn out club with the same one or maybe upgrade to the newest model.

I know that there are clubs that go further than mine, but I could NOW careless if I am hitting a 7 iron when someone else is hitting an 8. I know my gaps and trust my clubs. Since becoming a reformed club ho, my handicap has gone down. For me, it means a lot to have faith in my clubs.

Learning to be content is one of the most valuable lessons you can learn.

I’ve done the golf equipment merry-go-round. I’m at the two year mark now with no changes to the bag. I’ve proved to myself that I can hit every club in my bag well so when I have a bad round, or start puttIng poorly, or can’t find a fairway with my driver, I know it is me, not my clubs. That logic has helped me break the cycle.
