SNELL GOLF BALLS??? anyone???

Recommended Posts

I ordered two dozen from Snell Canada. I wasn't sure how slick this would be, as most Canucks know how it goes when doing things north of the 49th......

I ordered two dozen Red. There is currently a small discount if you do two dozen. I did the price comparison compared to buying in the US and delivering to a mailbox just across the border ( I live close to the border), and the price was actually very close. Hallelujah, we actually get free shipping!!

After reading all the Snell reviews (after I had already ordered, lol), I decided that I wanted the Black instead. I sent off a Hail Mary email to the guys and lo and behold, immediate response saying they will change the order for me! So far, so good.

I will write a review once they get here, for the record I have been a Z-star and XV guy the past few seasons.

Have to brag. Smell Red (yellow one)

#7 hole today. 172 yards, stongish left to right breeze. . Took a little off a 7 iron and turned it back into the breeze. Ball mark was about a foot short of the pin.

Unfortunately, I can’t see that far, so didn’t see it go in. (Also remeber, elevation when talking distance)

I’m guessing that particular MTB Red (yellow) might get retired without you trying to get 72 holes out of it.

Good call NB. I had just hit a new one in the lake on the previous hole so dug this used one out of the bag. It probably had three or four rounds on it already, but won't be gaining any more.

I finally had chance to test MTB Red. As gaming the original MTB for years, MTB Red completely is different ball. RED definitely is clickier than the OG. Flight and distance about the same. For me, RED fits in between ProV1x and Z Star XV.

What made YUGE difference was spin. Thanx to many WRXers, I already knew RED would spin more so I went after flags. Though some rolled forward and back few feet more but overall, I was able to play aggressively and to place balls in easy one-putt range. If i can shave few strokes in hcp, RED would stay.

Ah-ha! Red! See I could never put my finger on the smell of an ace until now. Thanks ;)

Kidding aside, well done! You've put my 95yd eagle hole out in this thread to shame! Congrats!

Oh man, can’t believe I did that. Oh well, that’s me! And thanks!

I’m not even going to edit it. It can remain as monument to my stupidity!

Finally, got around to getting the test pack. Glad I did. So far, very impressed.

I'm average swing speed guy (90-95 with the driver) and have definitely gravitated towards lower compression balls as I like soft feel. I got the test pack to really try out the MTB Black, but actually decided to play MTB Red first. Played 54 holes over a couple of days with a sleeve of the Reds and I'm surprised how much I liked the ball.

I got the Yellow version of the MTB Red and the finish was on point. Durability was good and the yellow color was bright and easy to spot. I was bracing for a clicky ball, but found it to have very nice feel. Ball preformed excellent off the driver and the extra spin was noticeable going into the green. Hit a few shots out of rough that still provided great spin into firmer greens.

Going play MTB Black for my next few rounds. I will say, I thought Black would fit my game better, but its really going to have to perform to beat Red. For me, the MTB Red was a very pleasant surprise.

You mentioned soft feel. To me the Black is quite soft - let me know if you agree!

I have done some putting and chipping with the Black and I would agree, it is definitely soft. Feel-wise, that's what I like. I will playing the Black tomorrow so I'm interested in seeing how it performs, especially in comparison to the Red.

I have almost 2 dozen of the older MTB left so I haven't gotten around to getting any of the new models. One of the guys I play with did get the sampler pack and gave me one of each, the Red and the Black. He has played the Red and feels he doesn't get the distance with it hat he gets with ProVs. I finally got around to playing the Red on several holes but it is difficult to give it an adequate review due to soft and wet fairways and the fact that I wasn't playing well. I'll give it a thorough review after I have had he chance to play if a few more times and then move onto the Black.

When I switched from MTB ----> Black I was sort of shocked at how much softer the black is. Hugely noticeable in my book.

That's awesome congrats!! Is it your 1st hole in one? Also glad to hear you stopped playing it and saved it as a memento. My 1st hole in one I never saw as well. We knew it was going to be close but to not see it not on the green, and the anticipation walking up to the hole/flag.... just an awesome feeling seeing it at the bottom of the cup. Damn man, once again congrats!! :drinks:
