The new Titleist TS2 & TS3 fairway woods

Recommended Posts

Damn strange. Recoil channel goes away on the drivers but not the fairways??

Attractive at address....as usual.

Like the drivers, the recoil channel is buried on the TS3 and missing on the TS2. One would think the channel might be more important for the average amateur more so than the low handicapper/pro that would be using a lower spinning option. Waiting the explanation from Titleist. Or, a high MOI with the rear weight does more to help the helpless than the recoil channel.

The pictures show both models........it says active recoil channel on the bottom of both models

Looks like a nice shape. This is the year of the new 3w for me so I'll probably try one of these out at some point.

Those look really nice! The hardcover is classy!

Surprised that the TS3 looks shallower than the TS2. Do we think they will be priced differently from each other? Hopefully a stock Tensei Orange?

lol it's funny that people like these but don't like the drivers. The only difference is the presence/absence of the active recoil channel in the fairways/drivers

I can’t speak for everyone, but the 915 and 917 fairways were very good for me while I could never find the right fit with the drivers. I think for those that had that experience a little bit of bias may be carrying forward into this new model.

It's there on both fairways. Seems like the industry as a whole has gone away from it in the drivers so no surprise there. I'm interested in what new tech these heads have. I'll probably stick with my 917 fairway and possibly pick up a backup.

really wish they would drop that recoil channel...

Any reason why?

Because clubs with recoil channels (or similar) feel worse, imo. That includes tm as well. I didn’t care for the m2 or aeroburner because of the channel.

Yup the TS headcovers are pretty slick.

I agree the TS2 line both driver and fairway look to have the deeper faces, which contradicts all previous models. I was hoping the TS3 line was the deeper more workable more customizable model, obviously we don't know either way yet but the TS2 does appear to have the deeper face. Also listening to "2 guys talking golf" they mentioned the TS2 driver to be deeper faced. The whole time I figured they were just referring to the wrong heads accidently but doesn't seem so now.

So many questions leading up to the specs and design features of the new line (I mean actual specs like CC's face depth etc. not marketing).

The price of these would be insane with a real deal Tensei Orange

Yep. Titleist charge extra $300 for the white and blue for 917

These clubs look great. I am in need of a good fairway wood. I will be checking back to get some more information about release dates.

I did a search to learn more about the difference between these 2 models. Am I correct in thinking if I want to use this club off the tee for a big opening shot I would go with TS2 over TS3? I don't need something to replace my hybrid/ long iron but I would love something to replace my driver on some holes. Thanks!! Much appreciated. Sorry if these are stupid questions this is my first day on the forums.

The way they each look in the picture the 2 looks to have the deeper face, which is a flip flop from previous version. The deeper face is a bit more difficult for some to find the center of the face off the deck for some (my self included). Would be just fine off a tee.

Not a stupid question at all, and your thought pretty much echoes most people's thought on this line so far.

Also welcome to the forum. It's great place to kill way to many hours of each day :drinks:

Unfortunately yes I think so. I wish the TS3 was the deeper faced and more 917F3 playing style. I don't know about you guys but I've loved the 917F3 and its Surefit CG with the deep face. "If" the TS3 turns out to play like the 917F2, and TS2 plays like the 917F3 but without the Surefit CG "I think" I'd have a very hard time switching out my 917F3 for deep faced lower spinning style head with else adjustability like the TS2 (granted this is just all speculation still at this point, and only making assumption off pics only, so in 2 weeks when we hear more this post could be all BS thinking).

The 917 fairways are great, I doubt I will even think about switching to the new model. I will probably look at the drivers even though I love my D3 just because it's a new driver lol.

so do we think the ts2 gonna be compared to the 915Fd model?

They still have the channel like the 915Fd because it still helps with a fairway unlike the new drivers. TS2 is a bomber design... high, long, and more forgiving. TS3 has SureFit Weight and is bigger than last 917 F3. Lower launch and spin than TS2, but easier to hit than 917F3 because of size.

Makes sense, I'm interested in the TS2 Designs for both drivers and fairways just because of looks really. We'll have to see what my numbers are like compared to my 917D2 and 917F2 right now

Had my fitting yesterday for the TS line via Titleist PGA Staff day in East Tennessee. I wrote about my experience with the driver in the other "spotted at US Open" forum.

The two fairways are distinctively different in adjustability and as I currently swing the best head/shaft combo in a 3-wood I'ver ever hit, the TS3 fairway saw an increase in 2 mph ball speed and higher launch. This did not translate into more distance however because my 917 F2 is a rocket. Looks and sound are awesome, the best ever. The TS2 fairway was extremely easy to hit, very fast ball speed, and got up fast. Too much elevation for me in the TS2 however.

How would compare the shapes of TS2/3 to 917F2/3? Is it the same?

TS2: larger footprint shallower face (like 917F2)

TS3: smaller footprint slightly deeper face (like 917F3)

To be honest I think the size is the same on the TS2/3. The TS3 has the classic shape with more bulge/roll and the TS2 is the new "modern" shape and appears to have a much flatter face, less bulge/roll, which is similar to the look of the drivers. It was described that the forgiveness of the the TS3 is what the 917 F2 is currently and the TS2 is built like the driver... easy launch and max forgiveness. Basically the 917 F3 concept goes "bye bye".
