Finally got hold of a box of balls here in Sweden.

My normal ball is Pro V1x 2015.

Initial impression of the long game was absolutely amazing. I’m a high launch, high spin player and the lower spin on both back- and side spin did some serious change. I didn’t like the extra yards I got, but the tighter dispersion was great.

In the short game the ball was ok, nothing more.

BUT it was a horrible experience putting the ball.

Pro V1x has a beautiful “click” and great feedback when putting. AVX felt like a rubber ball with a quiet dull sound without any feedback whatsoever. What a dealbreaker for me!

Also I didn’t like the look of the ball. The dimples look strange and almost identical to that cheap Wilson ball with blue text.

BTW, I got a pretty bad start with this ball. Lost two balls within the first two minutes trying the ball on the course ?

Ya Tbowles I'm with you.. if I'm playing somewhere super firm and fast I might go with TP5x but the AVX is so sweet. I still have a dozen I bought from you, can't have em back! Sorry! Haha

I have plenty of yellow left! :cheesy:

I might be wrong here but this ball seems to be really good in wind. I just played in 15-20 and the ball just rifled through the wind. Almost not enough spin on driver, but irons into the wind.... would any tour guys consider this ball in the Open championship or in links conditions? I think I’m gonna ship a few boxes to Ireland.

Seems very comparable to the Callaway Supersoft..........for twice the price. I played the AVX and it's a decent ball, I prefer the Chromesoft. The AVX seemed a lot like the Supersoft to me.

you might be confused. super soft? lol no.

Check the distance and spin numbers on both the Supersoft and AVX in Rick Shiels reviews.........I think you'll be surprised. His 100 yard shot showed 600 more revs of spin than the AVX with the same distance

I have played SuperSoft and AVX. Maybe a Rick Shiels 100-yardages SW has similar spin but on a North Butte 145-yard 7-iron or 35-yard pitch over a bunker the two could hardly be more different. No spin at all with SuperSoft on those shots, as opposed to AVX which spins plenty albeit slightly less than some Urethane balls.

Most balls spin a lot if you hit them at 85mph with fresh SW grooves...

I agree that the AVX is far better on partial shots for spin, I still think the Chromesoft is better for me. I play the Supersoft occasionally early season and late........it's pretty fun distance ball that holds well on full shots.

I think the AVX would be a great ball for about $30 a dozen, just think it's a bit overpriced for what it offers.

Just my opinion.........every ball is great for someone!

I try my hardest not to spend $45-$50 on a dozen golf balls. I find plenty of ProVs on the course to never really worry about it.

I bought some of the last K-Sigs Tour Performance balls that were out and think they're great. Not convinced that they're better than the old ProV1X or new ProV1, but good enough for me. Bought 4 dozen for like $70. Thats WAY more worth it than anything else out there right now for myself.

I have tried the AVX and do like it, but just can't convince myself to spend the money at this point.

Been playing AVX for a couple months now. I like the ball and the extra distance off the tee(I think i'm in the sweet spot of the balls demographic- 53 y/o with mid/upper 90's SS), but the lower spin off the irons is an issue. My P-790 mid irons already have low spin so the combo for me leads to a little more of a line drive than is optimal. I keep alternating the Chrome Soft X back in as i love the putting/short game play of this ball. theres definitely a give and take. Chrome soft X def spins more and a few less yards on the typical tee shot. May just have to return home to the ProV1X!!

What does the AVX compete with? Direct competitor?

Chromesoft

Qstar tour?

Among people I know who’ve switched it mostly seems to replace ProV1 or ProV1x. Which probably is not exactly Titleist’s dream scenario ;-)

Can I be the exception? :)

No, you must play the ProV1x first. Then we’ll let you switch to that sweet, sweet AVX.

So this ball is Titleists most successful launch since the original ProV1. A lot of the naysayers better be hungry, because there is crow to be eaten.

Really not saying anything...unless one could say that it was a launch AS successful as the Pro V1.

Right? Until it has been established that its taking market share AWAY from TM / Callaway / Srixon or B-Stone, its just another ball the Titliest boys can enjoy.

In fact this ball might have been more about keeping market share rather than actually gaining market share.

Sometimes a golf ball is just a golf ball.

The AVX isn’t going to steal buyers from Bridgestone any more than Tour Soft stole buyers from Callaway or K-Sig drove Titleist out of business. These companies just come up with products they think will sell and then market the bejeebers out of them.

Was given a two-ball sleeve of these to test against V1x's at a Titleist demo day. Played AVX on front nine V1x on the back. For me (92 mph ss, 5 hcp), I found that the AVX has much less spin off both the driver and irons. My drives were very flat with lots of roll out. Iron shots were coming up short and flew almost like knuckle balls. They did feel very nice coming off the club and putter. V1x was a better fit for me - appears I need the extra spin to keep the ball in the air.

Saw no appreciable difference with AVX or V1x that would make me switch from my MTB Red's and Black's.....

working in a golf store, i am seeing something different. no one buys the tour soft...ever. I think the AVX may be the current best seller, that is just feeling as i dont have numbers. but we sell way more of them than any Bstone ball. Now, will that last after everyone tries them? i dont know but we are selling a lot of them. so if it is marketing, it is currently working.

That ad Titleist ran hyping the Tour Soft as a Chrome Soft alternative was kind of "out there" compared to the usual run of Titleist marketing bumpf. Not sure what was up with that.

But I'm not surprised to hear Tour Soft is a slow- or non-seller. At my club a good many people tried either a sleeve or a dozen of them when they first came out but lately, nothing. I've played a few holes with one and it's a perfectly fine ball but can't see the appeal.

It's one thing for people to want a ball that says "Titleist" on it. I understand that the name brings a price premium among many buyers. But the Tour Soft directly competes against the TruSoft with no real advantage and a substantially higher price. Either way they get to play a "Titleist" but I doubt there's any perception of extra value in the Tour Soft over TruSoft. Even the name sounds almost identical!

the toursoft is a two piece, surlyn covered ball. Its not even in the same catagory as chromesoft. It shows some intentional, or misguided ignorance on titleist for that add. if anything the AVX is its best rival.

My two cents on the AVX. I found it to be lower spinning on every kind of shot resulting in maybe a yard or two more of carry, lower flight and less stopping power in relation to Pro V1. While I’m not the highest spin player with any club, I did find it nice in certain situations where I was able to control a fade or draw at a lower flight then I feel I would have been able to with the Pro V1. As far as feel it was definitely firmer, but I still enjoyed it. The only time I would question using the ball is on very firm and fast greens, but for me and most other players I don’t find myself running into that too often. I think the ball offers something I haven’t seen in any other ball with the lower spin off tees and irons, but still very workable around the greens. It’s a ball that I think a lot of players would like. Only complaint is the price point, would like to see it at sub $40.

Does anyone know the ratio of AVX selling White vs Yellow?

Part of me initially thought being the first urethane Yellow ball from Titleist (at least in the North American Market) that it would have a decent group of followers.

To this day, and here is Socal the AVX has been around a while, I have found 1 AVX over the 60 rounds I have played this year. I also play as a single and get paired up with many different people and haven't ran into anyone else using them. Are more people liking this ball in other parts of the country ? Only ask because I don't see any strong demand here at all.

Initially (during the trial period) my club’s pro shop sold out of the yellow but had some white leftover. However, they only received like six dozen of each color in that initial shipment.

Since they became a regular item they sell slowly but steadily and the yellow seem to be slightly more popular. But in the past couple months I doubt they’ve sold more than a few dozen of either.

i think the ratio of white to yellow is about 50/50. i just work part time, and in the few hours i am there i sell 3-4 boxes of each. they are very popular right now. Especially with the "gentlemen" of the game.
