Shaft Feel/Flex Tee vs Turf

I've finally come to the realization that there's a significant difference for me in what I prefer to hit from a tee vs off the deck. I've found that from a tee, I tend to like slightly softer flex and from the ground much firmer shafts.

 

I recently came to the conclusion too, that my driver swing is a completely separate animal from my irons. My tee game is what spurred this drop in flex, and in that same light, I thought that any fairway wood should follow a similar pattern. Anyway, long story short, my M1 3w is money from a tee, but I completely lose confidence with it from the ground. The loose feeling, whippy nature of the shaft has me doubting contact and I will be going back to going back to X-stiff, properly tipped.

 

I was chasing higher launch, from the deck, when I built it, but it's a 3hl and can be adjusted higher in loft so that will be achievable in x-flex. Is this crazy to prefer a soft flex in driver compared to irons/3w??? My .335 X100 in the Ping G is a noodle, more like R+ but works perfectly.

Might not be that common - but hardly crazy. And even if it was, who cares? Whatever gets the job done :-)

Justin Thomas was known for having an S-flex in his driver when he came up for what sounds like similar reasons. He does play an X now but it's a softer profile shaft and is untipped.

I really like the kick through the ball on the tee, the turf interaction compensates for any lack thereof off the deck. Both kick and turf interaction = bad feel for me!

Yeah, my current setup M1 3hl with X-Con 7 S just isn't cutting it, just so much whip when I waggle at address, has me doubting contact unless it's teed up. I've already slightly topped 3 of 5 from the deck and am patiently awaiting a much stiffer shaft to use instead. In the meantime I built a Aeroburner TP 3w with a Speeder TS 757-X that I tipped 1", and it feels like a telephone pole. I had both just lying around from last year, and this might be the golden setup I am looking for. It will feel so much more like my irons, which I hit beautifully off the turf and the TP head is smaller so it should interact better off the grass.
