TV broadcasts in 1.25 speed?

You never knew when they cut to guys on the green, they all had just run (except for Westwood) to the green after hitting their approach shots? They are catching rides after their tee shots - you are confusing what you are seeing for the entire tournament being made a lot faster and having to be slowed down for TV - guys on the Euro Tour haven't walked for years.

Speeding up live broadcast - lol.

And yes, when I hit fast forward that ball rolls really fast!

Hmm-maybe this has merit. Could be why so many folks think the pros get over 50 yards of roll on every tee shot.

"Just look how fast it's rolling!!!" :)

I put an older clip, and this weekend's tournament coverage into Sony Vegas - a non-linear video editing software program, and analyzed the rotations on the ball during putts... this weekend's coverage was speed up... I calculated it to 1.2388 percent using a frame rate analyzer.

OP... good eyes!

Why thank you!

Why would they speed it up... more time for commercials?

They must have their reasons. It was the fastest I’ve ever seen 3 pros hawk around their putts for sure.

Squat, stand, squat, stand . Walk fast. Squat , stand. Walk.

I thought , well this is odd. But ok.

Then the Irish Open does the same thing.

Perhaps it has something to do with Net Neutrality? It’s the Wild West on TV now?

I wish they would show us golf at normal speed. It’s really not much to ask for , some people call it torture outside of Golf Fans.

Definitely need to specify whether you are seeing this on Live coverage or a replay.

I would think that during replay coverage this would be somewhat expected. On live coverage not so much.

It was live coverage but was not live coverage.

See what I’m saying? Which is why I started a post about it.

It was reality on fast forward .

Exactly. People complain they don't see enough golf shots between commercial breaks. Now the viewers can see more shots AND the broadcasters can get in the same amount of commercials.

It wouldn't surprise me if the broadcasters are speeding up the commercials as well to screw over the advertisers.

WTF, this thread has just gone weird. Where are you guys saying the broadcasts are sped up? I'm in Australia and watched the entire Irish Open coverage here and there is no way the broadcast was does up. And I'd also like an answer to how they speed up a live broadcast! I didn't bother watching any PGA Tour but never seen it in that broadcast either.

Has anyone else noticed a recent change with the Greenbrier and the Irish Open on Golf Channel?

They are speeding up the broadcasts to 1.25 instead of normal speed. If you look closely you can tell. The pros take a shot much faster than they do in real life. They look like they are on speed.

This is hard to watch.

No way this happens.

It’s impossible. Either they start a 5 hour broadcast an hour late in order to finish on time——or they invented a time machine to watch the finish before it actually happened—or your DVR is screwed up.

That particular day, golf channel was covering the Irish Open and the PGA in West Virginia.

Their goal (I wager) would be to show you as much golf and commercials in as short amount of time as possible.

It was just slow enough not to raise too many eyebrows but too fast for people who watch golf swings 24/7 like I do.

And a tip off to spot this in the future will be: that there is only 1 announcer and not 2 with back and forth banter. This 1 announcer hops in and talks some but not too often, as the golf is going too fast for him to comment on it in a Normal way.

How do you think broadcasters add in a time delay in order to block out expletives? Yes, it's possible to speed up those replays.

There is a time delay for TopTracer of about 30 seconds, but it’s constant. Not sped up.

Love the armchair quarterbacks telling RDD how it works. Keep it coming guys. This thread has potential for an epic dumpster fire.

What are they doing, broadcasting from the future? It's live TV.

You need to adjust your smart TV and turn off all the built in "enhancement" crap.

If you’re talking about the Euro Tour coverage that Golf Channel gets from the UK feed, the Golf Channel plays all sorts of delay games. Including cutting away for frequent commercials (while the UK broadcast is still live) then showing stuff that happened a couple minutes earlier while they were on commercial.

It still starts and ends in real time but any given minute or two or three may be fiddled with.

Ive noticed this in other programming before, like when streaming Netflix...always figured it's just some sort of visual relic from something funky happening in the transmission of the signal.
