Even though van de Velde was part of it, I am annoyed with GC for doing this. Really shameless attempt at sensationalizing a sad moment in golf.

Ha! Just saw it.

Thought it was excellent.

Never knew about how killer Lawries round was. Started the day 10 shots back. His 2nd on 18 landed short of the burn and bounced over it. He lives an hour away and stayed at. home that week. Iron approach on the 4th playoff hole was money.

You guys prolly knew this all but the show was well done.

?? ... sports is filled with these moments ... it's part of what draws us to it ... i assume you are trolling ...

i've played that hole twice and remember sitting on the couch watching it unfold ... it's the single biggest catastrophe in golf, other than maybe snead's triple bogey ... and it's been long enough ... it was very well done, imo ...

No, my trolling is pretty epic. You'd know. ;)

And while failure might draw the masses, it holds no interest for me. That event got old real fast even when it happened, and GC making a whole show about it almost 20 years later is no better than the vulture media hanging over the burn for pictures in '99. Has nothing to do with whether it was well made or not. It's a tired subject and I turned it off.

Your opinion may vary...

He caught the early good weather and was basically done by the time the bad stuff came in. he played a great round no doubt.I thought Leonard played really well and deserved to win just as much as Lawrie. i still cant believe that Van de velde did not lay up on 18 after that tee shot. i think he tried to hit a 2 or 3 iron which is insanity considering over the green is out of bounds!!!.Faldo hits 8 iron, wedge 2 putts and kisses the claret jug.Course and situational management is so underrated...

Watching people crumble in an ultra high pressure situation is a wonderful and fascinating thing to watch. In the end, this is not a Roman Coliseum battle to the death. It's a game. They are trying to put a stupid ball in a stupid hole. I feel sorry for those who can't allow themselves to enjoy this spectacular moment in Golf history. JVDV has handled the entire episode like a champion.

From the promos I didnt think I would like it but i enjoyed it. I thought it would be just piling up on Van de Velde. But it brought a lot of things to light for me about that tournament. I thought Lawrie was some scrub that backed into that win, but after they detailed how good his round was I though differently. Also, it showed how bad the lie was on his third shot. I always thought he just decelerated through and quit on it but they talked about how bad the lie actually was. Forgot how bad the playoff was. It looked like Leonard was so shook up he practically gave the playoff away.

Bar scenes were product placement for the sponsor. Jean seems like a good guy who took it in stride.

More famous than if he had won. He'd then be the subject of "worst golfer to win a major" on GolfWRX.

Other than the bar scenes, I thought it was great.

Hell, I had forgotten the playoff! lol

That’s it! That’s why it sucked.

Espn 30 for 30 would've done a better job but its one of the most compelling sports stories to ever come from golf. Van de Velde and his caddy seem at peace with what happened which was good to see. In many ways Van de Velde will be remembered a lot more than many major winners. That 99 open was one of the most epic moments in golf history.
