Does anyone here create yardage books? Or do you just use rangefinders? I'm considering attempting to create one for worlds.

You should be able to call the course you are playing and order one.

If you are planning making one I would suggest using this guy. He makes great covers and can even do them custom. His yardage sheets are good and then you can use google maps to map the course on them. Guy who owns it is Michael Carter and he is a great guy.

I think most kids are using loprogolf.com but I'm not sure of their status since the app has been down for a while now. I think they are still making yardage books for the big tournaments like US Kids Worlds and the larger FCG events.

edit: there's also bluegolf.com you can use. Here's a link to Pinehurst 2.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

I made my own yardage book for my home course. I imported satellite photos into a lightweight CADD program. I traced the features I could see, scaled the model appropriately, and pulled dimensions to various features. The contour info I did "freehand". It was a PITA, but a good winter project. For several winters....

You can also go to Game Golf and copy the maps.

The issue is going to be to find a yardage book made for those courses that is actually worth paying for. It would be nice to have a real yardage book on courses.

If your course is not available I been told use a good GPS watch with listed hazards along with a laser finder and use it. Then buy a generic yardage book you can draw in take lots of notes during a practice round.

Most yardage books are made for US open qualifier courses so it is good to check but I don't think the courses you are playing are on anyones list. Odds are good they have one if it had a professional qualifying tournament there prior to your tournament.

They make a ok yardage book

I also been told that Mark Long makes a good book so you may want to contact him.

I bought a green book for Mid Pines from greenslopesgolf.com for $15. Figured as much money as I am spending to go to Pinehurst already, whats another $15! This is just a green book though. I've made quick yardage books before , but found that at the younger age yardages there are very few fairway/tee shot hazards anyway. A quick laser form the tee box to greenside bunkers or hazards usually tells the story. If its an unfamiliar or non typical looking course, I usually make quick notes using google maps measuring function. The green / approach function on the golflogix app is pretty detailed as well ( it also seems to be consistant with the greenslopes.com book). If you try to screen shot it, it warns you to not do it again or shut down - but you can get crafty on how to copy the image if you want to take the time. Obviously you cant use your smart phone during the tmnt.

If you have time and patience you can create a yardage book fairly easily using Google Earth/Maps and the measure distance function.

There are forum threads where people have gotten quite sophisticated and use Adobe Illustrator to do this. I just screenshot the satellite image of the hole from Google Maps, paste it into MS Paint, cut the section I need and paste it into Word. I then use Word's limited drawing functions to draw over the image. When I'm done I delete the image. It's fairly quick. You can use text boxes to add yardages.

When my son was younger and I was making yardage books for him I got blank yardage books from http://www.yardage-marker.com/

and used google earth measure tool. Very simple to do and when we got to the course all we had to do was map out the greens.

I used that book but really didn't like it as I had to pretty much draw everything. Just as easy to get a small spiral notebook from office depot and write in there. I was looking for a way to get actual course images that we can print out and write on so there is some visual feedback on our planned shots should land.

This is a yardage book that I have done for my local course. I done it with Google Earth and Inkscape.

This one took quite a while. All of the yardages are done from the sprinkler heads and are lasered to the front of the green. I used a breakmaster on the greens and tried to get a break every 3-5 yards to cover most all pin placements.

All this is too much work if you doing tournaments every 2 -3 weeks at the local muni. Just not enough hours In the day to make a pretty book. I looked at so many solutions all them are are not great solutions and I am not paying $10 a book to help me out. For the majority of tournaments we now use a regular notebook and taking notes on each hole. Scores are dropping so it seems to work. Plus a piece of paper Ripped out a notebook is not much. The best caddie book is a laser finder or gps device.

if you happen to play a USGA event without distance devices allowed is when you should go out and buy the caddie book that someone did and put your notes in. If your playing the right events the books exist and they will sell them to you.

This is exactly what I do for my teams. It takes time, and specific knowledge of the green surfaces and slope, but you can guide a junior around a course pretty well with basic landing areas and points of emphasis per hole. My boys team uses them religiously, and even make their own remarks in space provided. I print them back to front and cut the 8 1/2 x 11 sheets in half lengthwise, creating a foldable book for each 9, with green complex on top of page and approach/fairways and points of emphasis the bottom portion. Quite detailed if you know the courses you play. This helps us a lot in the consistency department, and also gives some focus shot by shot rather than worrying about the final number, which many juniors can get caught up in. IMO, of course
