Odyssey Red Ball putter

Recommended Posts

Hideous. And the RedBull type font for RedBall is silly. I applaud the concept, but I could never look down at that thing and not cringe.

I feel like odyssey is obligated to make a gimmick putter every couple years lol.

They absolutely do. Flip face, this, Toe Up, BackStryke...the list goes on. However, every now and then they hit on a gold mine of design or tweaking existing designs into perfection. Take the 2-Ball and #7 style putters for example. These putters have been massive successes and I am sure they were not looked upon highly at their release.

If nothing else it tells me they at least think outside the box in their R&D some and money is being spent back into putters. I mean how many ways can you improve an Anser or Newport milled putter? Gotta think elsewhere.

I see how the concept makes sense for some, but why does it have to look like it ought to be hanging from a Christmas tree?

As evidenced by my signature, I’m willing to game anything that works, but understated is also nice.

It'd be interesting to see how many of us are inconsistent in our set up with the putter, by how much, and whether (and to what extent) that inconsistency impacts putting results.

What this does is provide easy feedback for consistency in set up. Yes, it's all tied into "ons size fits all" fundamentals for set up - that's its weakness (at present) - but for people for whom "eyes over the putting line" is the right fundamental, this could help.

Seems like majority of their stable is gimmicky, or at least busy/hideous, at the moment. They need to come out with a simple line to balance it out. No versa or other ugly stuff.

Looks like a similar concept to the Rife Two Bar putter. Very curious to see/try this in person

The Protype Tour Series did not sell well at all. They were exquisitely simple traditional and modern shapes in carbon steel with milled faces. Just lovely putters.

I've putted with a lot of funky looking putters. I get the premise of it. But everyone's stroke is individual. They're attempting to make someone putt a certain way. And I guess if you're struggling with alignment only, then this could be the very thing that's needed. However, this won't fix any other issue. I give them an A for effort, but that's really about it.

True, but priced in the Scotty range and you ain't winning that battle. I'm suggesting a simple line like the white hot pro. Simple looks, plain white hot insert (no hinges, dimples, etc). Offer that in a #3 with line on top, please.

We need protypes back, but at Cleveland prices haha. That line was incredible, I still have my number 9, but would love to have a refreshed line introduced.

Back in the fall I was struggling mightily with my putting. While at a pga superstore and before our afternoon round, I played around with a seemore si3. After 5 minutes in the store, my putting improved drastically for the remainder of 5he trip. Once I returned, I purchased an old beat up one to use as a practice putter. It is currently in the bag. Given I like a bigger putter, an si5 showed up at my door step today.

The concept is growing on me and I’ll try a red ball putter in the store. Given I like the odyssey insert, I may give it a try.
