Spalding Putters!!!

Scored these sweet Spalding Putters today!!! One is a TPM 2 which I am familiar with and the other is a High Efficiency lll which I know nothing about. Does anybody have any info for me?

 

I also found this Ping Karsten l SW. The bottom 4 rows of grooves are pretty warn. If anyone wants it to complete a set just PM and I’d be happy to ship it for just the cost to do so.

Back in about 1980, my neighbor friend and I went to buy putters at the golf store. I bought an Anser and he bought a TPM 2. That High Efficiency looks like a 8802 clone on the front side and little heel/toe weighing on the back side.

 

Spalding made some nice stuff back in the day along with entry-level stuff.

Played with a guy yesterday who has that exact Spalding TPM2 putter. I told him he had a special putter. He had no idea.

TPM putters are great I have an anser style TPM, and currently searching for a 8802 style. The one above looks like a blacked out Bullseye flange putter.

Funny thing is I prefer the look of the 8802 style but I am stroking the TPM2 much better.

I agree but it was like they made so much entry-level, store-brand stuff that you kind of had to be an equipment expert to know they had good clubs. My brother-in-law had a TPM putter; he was a low single-digit handicapper who absolutely did not care a bit about equipment, just whatever worked and didn't cost much.

The old Spalding TPM putters are great! I especially like the ones that will take a Birchwood Casey cold blue finish. I think they have a feel that is just as good as the older Scotties and better than the newer ones.

Thanks Fellaheen, this is an interesting and informative link. I have a few of these putters and they have a really nice feel on the ball, I assume this is because of the carbon steel. Neither can I. I regripped mine with a Lamkin Oversized grip in green and gold. That made all of the difference for me. So I committed to it and holefully we are in a long term relationship...

Thanks for the information. I've been accumulating TPM putters for a couple of years. Now I can put the herd in logical sequence.

A local course was having their annual "garage sale" today. Never one to let a vintage putter go by, picked up a few to add to the ever burgeoning accumulation of cheap putters. Spalding TPM Touring Pro Model IV, TPM 14 mallet and a Reuter Achusnet O-Set ML 5 M P Bullseye.

 

What was interesting about the IV, it's been stripped of the finish to raw. Actually kind of like it in this fashion. Going to clean it up, redo the fill. The TPM 14 has a Crown Jumbo grip installed that destroys the balance. A regrip with a basic "Pro Only" should restore the feel back to normal. Never have seen a #14 mallet before. The Bullseye is quite beat up, think the metal is aluminum along with the brass. Original leather grip that's in nice shape (except the end medallion is gone). May do some "tapping" on it to attempt to mitigate some of the worst dings.
