So today I slice open a Yellow and Black Truvis and the layer coloring is different from the Red and White. I though they were the same year but possible the yellow and black is the 2018 , not sure . Enjoy !

If you show me the alignment arrows, I can tell if you if it a 2018 one!

I thought the Chrome Soft's were a 4 piece ball? That one looks like a 3 piece ball.

You are cutting open some nice looking golf balls. Under what condition do you remove a ball from play?

These would stay in my bag a while longer.

the yellow Truvis was beat up pretty bad .

The white I am not sure what year it was but I thought the original Chrome Soft might have been a 3 pc however the Truvis didn’t appear until it became a 4 pc?

I think that one is a 4 pc just get hard to see the separation of the 2 core layers. If you blow up the pick you kind of see 2 colors but not well defined.

Chrome Soft has noticeable un-centered core.

Nike has my favorite inner cores. Looks very nice.

Volvik vibe was a such letdown. I love Volvik and wanted to see how their urethane cover stands out. It felt harsh and was comparable to QST but worse.

The inner chrome soft looks like the same color as the Truvis I did on page 1, make me think the Truvis I did was in fact a 3 pc and not 4 pc.

Good work ! Enjoyed the pics!

I see the u-fli soft above. Can you cut the speed version for comparison?

Sorry for the delay. Played 18 holes with the U-Speed today and almost didn’t want to cut it open and it was still in great shape. I don’t understand some of the reviews saying it’s not durable. Judge for yourself. (Also below is the U-soft from earlier in this thread)

Doesn’t that Ufli soft look very off centered? The orange part. Would that cause an imbalance or no?

That Uspeed looks as good as a TP5x

It’s possible if the layers have a wide difference in density and true weight properties.

My guess is it probably is within accepted tolerance and would have minimal impact to the average player.

However I am not a ball engineer so I am just stating what I think and not based on testing or facts lol

I believe the first one you cut open was the original 3-piece Chrome Soft from 2015 (as you can see from the others, dual cores should be noticeable). They initially released the Truvis patterns in late summer of 2015 for the original 3-piece version.

Retail side stamps

2015 < Chrome . Soft >

2016 < Chrome Soft .. >

2018 < Chrome Soft >

It may be a good idea to post shots of the side stamp when cutting open so that we know which version for models that maintain the same name.

I have tried to make some distinctions on model year when I felt it was applicable. I honestly thought the Truvis came only in 4 pc.

Point taken and will try to take a pic before I cut of the side as well.

The Z-Star construction looks very simple compared to some of these other balls. Maybe that's why they can mark them down to $20 per dozen! I'll keep buying/using them regardless - they play as well as the more complex balls.
