How long have you been playing golf and $ spent estimate so far?

No way. You telling us you are spending $28k a YEAR to play golf? I don't see how that is even possible even playing some of the best courses. Unless you are an aspiring pro and entry fees are that much or this including wagers lost or something. In that case, congrats, you must be wealthy, not have to work and you've made golf a really expensive hobby.

I'm surprised more don't admit to that. Talking equipment, vacations, dues (generally $5,000-7,000+), a club membership (can be $25,000+ here), other rounds away, member/guests, men's league, comps..... while high, not out of the realm.

Dues at a club - $700. Add in carts, food, drinks and a $1k monthly club bill is easy to get to. If he owns a business and hosts customers for golf another $1500 is just a foursome at a high end course suitable for customer golf.

Golf has been my main sport (addiction) for the past 30 years. Before that it was surfing, racing motorcycles....haha, and women!

If I wasn't spending my discretionary income on golf....I might be buried by now.

No private membership for me but some travel, and usually 1.5 - 2 rounds per week (52) . Plus, I like fairly new equipment...I do usually unload my existiing suff via eBay etc.

I guessing around 85k

It's been a great investment

I've been playing at least 60 years (will be 71 this month). With all of the clubs, balls, bags, shoes, golf-specific apparel, green fees, cart fees, membership fees, membership dues, money lost on bets (I may actually be ahead there), food and drink on the course and after, travel expenses tied to outings, it has to be a small fortune! It would probably make me sick if I knew what the actual amount was and because of that I won't even try to estimate a total.

Over the course of 35 years. 5 iron sets and about $300 each. Probably 8 drivers, more recently in the $3-400 range. A dozen used hybrids. 4 SW, 6 putters - only recently more pricy. 6 bags. A handful of Ping wedges. Probably 100 dozen balls o we that time. Maybe 100 buckets of range balls. I spend more on green fees - all public, and golf travel. All in all not much. Less that I spend on fishing gear.

Wow, have been playing since 1994, I have one of the biggest Ping collections in the world besides Ping and the Pongman. Not sure I want to know. Played a lot from 1994-2003. Played full time for four years 1998-2002. I have spend a lot of money on golf. Having every single iron of Ping made since 1961 alone are over 80 different models, have 55 putters in my collection. Let say an average of $50 per putter/iron alone is $6750. All entry fees for tournaments ect, lesson. So probably over 100k.

15 years. What began as a hobby to get over a sour relationship ends up being an obsession that has been well documented and given me more joy than I could ever imagined. Heck I even planned my engagement around Scotland and st Andrew just so my wife would want to go back.

And it all began with a bag of titleist 762 in extra stiff I paid 200 for.

I’ve lost count. Club dues. Golf outings. Tons of hoing. Money well spent. And as I’m typing this I believe I have a new set of ap2s on the way.

I think my ebay account is at almost 200 in feedback compared to golfwrx but that's cuz I was hoing long before golfwrx. Even now it's 50/50

22 years. Parents paid for nearly everything until I was 18. Then I worked at a course until mid 20s when at university. So all clubs were at wholesale prices and got balls, tees, gloves, fees etc for free. I still have friends in the industry so I get heavily discounted balls and clubs. Paying for membership now. Probably spent about $20,000 to this point, but should be far far more. Starting to travel a bit and play now, which is adding to the cost.

Well been playing since I was maybe 7-8. Don’t play much these days except love to spend time at range and putting green of a very nice course right down the road. So really it doesnt cost me much except range balls. During the summer probably 40-50 a week on various things including range balls. During school maybe every few weeks will find the time to hit balls.

If I wasn’t golfing I would probably fish more or use that time to shoot. Or maybe another session at the gym? Golf to me is not an obsession, but more one of many hobbies that occupies my time. It really just depends on the weather and how much time I have. We get a lot of rain in the Houston area and as so many courses only open their grass range on weekends, bad luck can mean I can go 2-3 weeks without hitting.

I spend waaaay less on golf than other hobbies. Money is not a factor.

Started when I was in university around 20 years ago. Bought a crappy $100 set from the local big box store which I used for the first 10 years or so.

Got a student membership at a local course the one year for $80.

Moved to Canada and didn't take the clubs with me, so bought a starter set once I was able to work and could afford the occasional round. I think I paid $200 for that.

After a few years I was starting to play a bit more, and my skill level was getting better, so upgraded to a set of Adams A4 irons. Technically they were a Christmas gift from my wife, but I think that was around $350. Around that same time I bought a used driver and used hybrid for around $200 for the two of them.

A couple of seasons back I upgraded to a used set of AP1s, which were my most expensive equipment purchase to date, coming in at around $500.

Only ever bought a membership once, which was last season, which came in at $1500, though work compensates us $750 a year for fitness account, so $750 cost to me.

Prior to that I'd buy a couple of punch cards, which were reimbursed completely by work.

So all told cost to me for 20 years of golfing? Maybe $2,000 - $3,000? Possibly double that if you add in what I've spent and been reimbursed for, or what other people have bought me for gifts?

We've never had the disposable income to spend much on extra curricular activities, so all my spending is pretty much limited to buying used, or only buying things once I've accumulated gift cards to pay for it.

I should show my wife this thread next time I go to buy something golf related :)

OMG, I don't even want to think about this.

Playing for about 35 years now.

Equipment (I'm a reformed club ho), over the years, at least $20K, probably closer to $50K...I really don't want to reflect on that.

Green fees, currently about $280/month, every month, weather permitting, plus cart girl expenses.

When I lived in Chicago area, figure only got to play 8 months of the year regularly, though Cog Hill did have year round range (reformed range rat, too) and couple courses open year round which I lived close so why not.

Then there was Indoor Golf up north, so we did that regularly as well.

Has to be well into $100-200K range, not including golf trips.

I guess I could have a Porsche, a lot more guns, a vacation home, house paid off.....

Why did you have to ask? I need a cocktail, or three.

Only 5 years seriously. Before that probably spent $2k total including clubs and fees. The most recent 5 since I started taking it seriously, dues at private club, too many sets of irons, drivers, etc... probably $25k. I'm still young enough to play as an intermediate.. in a couple years when I have to buy an equity share or pay initiation at another club this number will skyrocket.

Played socially off and on for 20 years.

Used hand me downs for about 15 of those years and only really started playing more regularly the last 5, when I also started purchasing new equipment and going to the range more often.

I was trying to do the numbers and I reckon a conservative figure would be $5000-$6000 (I could be way way off).

I'm not a big gear guy - quite content with my current set which I've had since 2014.

Still, so many little costs involved in golf though aren't there. Gloves, balls, snacks/beer, fuel, green fees, clothes...you could go on.

I know one thing that would just blow that figure all out would be a big golf trip to Scotland or New Zealand or something, which might not be far off
