Finish worn off AVX

I've played this particular AVX for 5, maybe 6, 9-hole outings. It appears that the finish has worn off all the "high spots" on the ridges, while leaving the finish in the "valleys" of the dimples untouched. I will attempt to post these photos next at TT.

I'm positive that Titleist will want to see that. They'll probably give you replacements for your trouble. Balls aren't indestructible, but it shouldn't do that. I've never seen the finish wear off an original ball.

If Titleist were Callaway, they'd see that and market it as a new "colorway" for the ball!

 

But seriously, I think that ball's paint and/or clearcoat was obviously deficient.

I can only imagine keeping a single ball through 45 holes of play, haha. This would never be an issue for me, sadly, but interesting to see. Be curious to hear Titleists response.

I have about 20 balls in my shag bag "Titleists, Callaways and Bridgestones" that I hit into my Ruckket Net that look exactly like that. Everyone of them has the black marks around the dimples from the black net.

Being a relatively short but straight hitter has some advantages, I guess.

 

Have sent in a similar post at TT. We'll see whether it get's printed or not. Meanwhile, I've put the ball in a tray in the event they ask to have it back for inspection.

Maybe your course uses some crazy fertilizer or something. I had a brand new pair of FJ Pro SL's that were black after walking 2 holes at my local course last year. I looked down and was like "What the Hell" Had to scrub the shoes with Simple Green to get them clean.

18-36 I get that. Titleist will probably say, "Good luck." But OP said 6-9.

Looks like it was hit into a net, as others have said. Does the range at your course have netting?

I had a good run with an AVX. Over 5 rounds. It didn't look at bad as the OP, but I did notice that it didn't wear as well as the PROV1.

 

Performance of the ball was still good though! I then think of how often a ball lasts 5 rounds. But I would agree that it is one of the few shortfalls of the AVX. Great ball!

I've played as much as (roughly) 45 holes with a yellow AVX and did not notice any particular wear on it. But there maybe an extra layer of paint on the yellow ones, for all I know.

I’ve played avx’s for 2 full-3 rounds and they certainly never got anywhere close to that. FWIW i can tear up covers with the best of them.

Hahaha ... just poking fun at guys like my buddy who swear ball performance diminishes after a few holes. He's a scratch player and rarely loses balls.

I almost completed 4 rounds with the yellow AVX...I swear the yellow has to be more durable than the white?

The typical Golf WRXer changes the ball after every birdie, which works out to 2 balls per hole.

Minutes after my OP here yesterday, I sent the identical message to the Golf Ball section of TT's Equipment Forum. It has yet to be approved. Upon reflection, this is probably not shocking.

 

But, thinking that Titleist must be interested in learning about this particular ball, I sent again just now the same text, but in a private email to the customer relations address. I even offered to snail mail them the ball.
