Tour Only ProV1

Anyone ever get some of the tour only ProV1 balls?

 

I saw that a few players on tour use a lower spin version of the ProV (Rickie Fowler) and was wondering where I could get my hands on some.

What ball are you referring too? Is it on the confirming list?

Hmm I know Callaway (SRs?) had a bunch of different models for tour use that could be found on RBG or Dallas or one of those sites. Unsure of any ProV tour only balls in the last decade

There are four pro v1 or v1x on the conforming ball list that are not sold in stores. They have an extra marking (dot or star or dash or plus sign) on the side seam to indicate the special edition.

Correct. All of the major OEM ball manufacturers have balls on the tours that are on the conforming ball list that are not available at retail. Numerous threads and posts about it here.

Yes, this is correct, although ball manufacturers certainly don't go out of their way to make this public knowledge. They want everyone to believe the Tour players use the same version that is available to consumers. By changing the sidestamp slightly (rather than stamping them with "prototype" or "tour only" they can submit it to the USGA for testing to add to the conforming list, and if a player wins with that ball, or for the Darrell Survey, they simply say it's a Pro V1.

 

These are more difficult to obtain than tour issue or prototype clubs. Tour players don't usually give them away, and you'll virtually never find one that has been lost (Tour players don't lose balls) so getting a quantity to be able to game them is hard to do.

Pro V1 Dot is real, and yes that’s the ball Ricky Fowler and a handful of other tour players use.

 

The current V1 is the closest to the V1 Dot Titleist has released for retail. The current V1 was actually patterned after the V1 Dot.

As the global tours are basically their test sites manufacturers will let prototypes out for tournament play that may never come to retail because they are not actually any better. I found some Pro V1 protos in practice ball boxes and they has different stampings. Some were ultra high spin and others much firmer. Neither made retail.

Obviously the players on tour are informed of what the ball does and they choose which one they want before hand, but are they released later down the line as a new iteration of the Pro V or are they strictly tour only?

I have a dozen ProV1(dot), I've had more in the past. But only a dozen new ones now

When Titleist is about to release new versions of golf balls they will often send sleeves out to people that have signed up with Team Titleist so as to get feedback from "regular" people. For some reason I keep getting the NXTs to try and they usually look like Titleist golf balls but with "test" in place of the usual side stamp. On some occasions they've sent out two sleeves of Pro Vs that were marked with a big triangle or a square (or possibly other symbols) and no "pro v1" or "pro v1x" side stamp so that people didn't know which ball they were testing. I think when Titleist sends those out, they are the balls that are about to get released to the public and they are looking for feedback that they can quote on the back of the box. I've never seen any threads that indicated that those are true prototypes.

A good friend of mine used to work in the locker room at a tour stop.

I have a few ProV 1X balls that are tour issue. I think they have a couple “+” markings on them. I was told they were a higher flighted 1X.

Maybe I should find them and put them on the BST.

Yes, there is a video I recall. I think he is showing the contents of his locker and says his ball is somewhere between a V1 and a V1X

JVegas also plays the Prov1 DOT - that ball is also a little harder as well - takes a bit more to compress it. He gave me dozen awhile back - pretty cool ball, wish we could have access to it.

There are 3 modified versions of the ball... A (Dot) to the LEFT of the Pro v1 lettering (2011 model I believe), A (Dot) to the RIGHT of the Pro v1 lettering (2013 maybe?), and a Pro v1x (2015) with a Dash to the left of the Pro v1x lettering.

A lot of them are just older models that are now only in limited production for tour players. I played with a tour pro a few years ago that player a Pro V1+. He said it was simply the 2011 version of the retail ball, this was around 2015 or so.

 

I have heard that TM has truly different versions but have had that disputed by their tour van, not sure I believe that though....
