Any high swing speed players prefer softer iron shafts?

Swing the driver between 117-120 and 6 iron at about 96/97 but find s300's the easiest shaft to square up. Maybe my swing is just busted???

You can use whatever works. JB Holmes uses S400’s and he is in the 120’s with a driver. Some jive with softer and some with firmer

My SS is around 115+ and I use S300’s. I’d like to try the X100 at some point but haven’t come across any to try out yet. The S300 works great for me personally though.

Swing speed is only one factor in shaft fitting. There's also tempo, timing, and "release point"

This is great information- its about much more than just swing speed. I have a friend who plays R300's and swings about as fast as I do, but 7.0s dont work for his swing.

I have tried irons with everything from KBS Tour V 90's (Reg) to Project X 7.0. Honestly, aside from feel, they perform almost identically until I get into the long (3-5) irons.

I prefer softer flex shafts due to how I load the shaft. You'll definitely like the X100 better if you like S300. Better yet, softstep 1x the X100.

I'm a slower swing speed person and I prefer a very stiff shaft. I use the stiffest shaft possible provided I maintain the proper height on the shot. That stiffer shaft with its stiffer tip is better for control I find.

I play X in my woods, but only play 5.5 in my irons, they just work for me.

It all depends on how you load and unload the shaft. My 7 iron carry is 170 and I’m using Recoil 660 F3’s. Don’t like a stiffer shaft.

Being as there's no hard and fast rule of what swingspeed equals what shaft flex, and being as there's also no hard and fast rule among the manufacturers regarding standards for shaft flexes, I've always looked at it in two terms: 1) shorter clubs I want softer shafts to increase feel (in the same manner that manufacturers produced soft wedge-flex shafts for wedges), 2) my longest clubs I was my stiffest shafts to increase control (so my driver and maybe fairway wood), 3) everything else is somewhere in between flex wise.

So have x-flex in my drivers, tipped S-flex in my fairways, S-flex in my hybrids and long to mid irons, Wedge-flex in my 9iron and wedges.

 

But that's me, your results may vary.

Driver swing speed is 115. 7 iron carry just increased to 175 by switching to project x 5.5’s. Fitting matters!

Driver ss is 105-106, play stiff in driver, 3 wood, and 2 iron, but my irons are Project X LZ 5.0. I just feel I have more control over my irons, and it easier to smoothly turn the ball over.

It goes to show that swing speed isn't the only determining factor when choosing flex.

I hoard Tour Concept X1 iron shafts, i've got like 3 complete sets of them I won't get rid of. I've been fitted for TC X100's SS 1x and they are basically perfect for me, 6 iron swing speed is 94 mph. They feel softer than X100s and have a more active tip section (which I like the feel of), a great option if your a high swing speed guy but like a little feel in your irons.

I went from Project X 7.0 to C-Taper 130 X. The C-Taper are smoother and softer feeling and I don't feel like I need to attack the ball as much. As I hit my early 30's I wanted something to take away the chronic elbow tendonitis. These have done it.

That’s typically how I play. Unless I need a super high spinny shot, 3/4 irons shots are typically how I roll. So much more control that way I find.

I had that set up in 2 iron sets, Miura tourney blades in satin and Ping s58's in dark green version .. silky they were

Played S300’s for the last couple weeks and they feel and timing feels right...but the ball flight is so high and ballooning with spin - never had that issue in my C taper 130. Looking to find something in between. Maybe px lz 6.5.

Try c-taper lite 115x. They feel super soft to me but really stable
