Still torn: JPX 900 forged or MP 18 MMC

Cannot make up my mind. Looks wise, I absolutely prefer the MMC. Have had success with J40 CB and 714 AP2, but the only MP I’ve ever really owned and tried were the MP 15 and I didn’t hit them well. For some reason the “MP” moniker intimidates me. Thoughts?

With both models, JP would be concerned about fliers in the more lofted irons...when he rented the jpx850s he had some 8,9 and PW shots where he was entirely unsure how far they’d go. You adjust obviously but coming out of rough with a jpx 9 iron, he just flew by the green. Maybe you adjust to that? For JP, it was an issue...

might be good to think whether you'd be happier with a better looking iron and not hitting good shots as consistently, or having an 'okay' looking iron but hitting good shots consistently.

In my experience with the MP 18 SC's, they definitely are more forgiving than they look. I believe it is due to the slightly wider soles.

Oh if I was an excellent ball striker, I would have the SC. Beautiful club. Trying to figure out if there is any difference in playability between the 900F and the MMC.

I was deciding between these two and ended up getting the JPX 900. I’ve played 4 rounds and they’re about 3/4 of a club longer than the AP2 716’s I was playing. Distances are consistent and the spin is good for me. I play to around a 6 handicap, but play once or twice a month and thought more forvgiveness would be better for my game. I’m a bit of a digger and wanted a club that was pretty much point and shoot.

The jpx900 forged didn’t work for me. Kept them for around 3 months and never could get them to work out. I’m going back to ap2s so I’d say if you can demo both that you’re interested in on the course then pick the ones that work best for you. I’ll bet both will be good choices for you but ultimately which will give you the most confidence on the course for the challenging shots. Best wishes. Keep us updated.

I have played my 900 forged for over a year. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them in regards to performance or appearance. You can get a brand new set on Ebay right now(auction is for used but they are new) for under $500.

Quickshipgolf is the seller. They have tons of sets with different shafts with auctions ending daily. Last one I tracked ended at $451. They say used but sticks are new.

Have tried both extensively. If it is me I am going with the 900F over the MP18 MMC. And I also do not consider the MMC the easiest to hit MP club. I would rank at least three MP heads — the 54,53 and 59 — as your best entry-level MP clubs. I have owned all 3 and still have the 53s, my favorite of the trio. Gave my 59s to my nephew and he is still gaming them. And if you get an MP54 in the air, switch to hybrids. So easy to launch and they fly high.

Overall, I really like the 900F more than the MMC. It is a great iron, one of the best distance players irons I have hit. At under $500 new, that is a nice set of sticks.

D.... the 54 that easy to get in air? As easy as your pings? I'm low launch and spin but love players irons....HELP!

I have owned a full set of 900F since release, shot my career low round with them last season, they are fantastic irons, and do not produce fliers, they are a true one piece forging, but are not the best for low launch/low spin guys. I get a bit more launch and spin from the MMC, but they look awful in the 9-P IMO (900F 9-P, look better). The MB are easy enough in the 9-P to combo in.

I also did not find the SC any more difficult to hit than the MMC through the mid irons. You can also add in the fli-hi, have them in 4-6, they help a low ball hitter also. Mizuno just makes superb irons and wedges, and give you a lot of options for combinations/mixed sets.

Just been fitted into JPX Forged having hit MP 18 SCs and MMCs. For me the JPX performed the best and still had awesome feel. SC is gorgeous but launched too high and spun too much for me. MMC kind of sits in the middle.

It's amazing how things change over time and with context.

20 years ago the SC would look like a game improvement club of sorts. Compared to my 33s they still do to me.

My guess is if I'd played Pings or Callaways for the last two decades then I'd be intimidated by them too.

I think there's a reasonable amount of forgiveness in both of those clubs. I think it's more of a case of whether you can grow into a certain look, or whether you'll never get comfortable with them. That's a very individual, subjective thing.
