Im not buying it. I have seen too many balls that were hit into my net that look exactly like that.

i agree with this....

AVX hater alert

How is he a hater? He’s saying it had to be something else that caused it.

As reported about this time yesterday, I directly emailed Titleist's customer service address with the text from my OP. At 12:30 yesterday, I received their reply. Yes, please send the ball to Fairhaven where our R&D people will give it a look. If we find the ball to be defective, we'll compensate you.

I'm pleased by the quick reply. That and the offer are about as good customer service as one could expect at this point. I'll post R&D's findings after I receive them.

I've played as much as (roughly) 45 holes with a yellow AVX and did not notice any particular wear on it. But there maybe an extra layer of paint on the yellow ones, for all I know.

I almost completed 4 rounds with the yellow AVX...I swear the yellow has to be more durable than the white?

Friend of mine gave me 3 brand new yellow AVX's and one of the things I noticed about the ball was how well the paint/finish held up. Held its color much better than yellow Srixon's and Callaway Chrome Softs.

I like the look of the white ones but I think I’m going to go with the yellow...played 18 today with the white and it looked worse that my yellows with multiple rounds.

I sent that poor AVX to Fairhaven via USPS last Friday afternoon. I was highly surprised and impressed to have a package waiting for me when I returned from the golf course last night (Thursday) at 8 pm. Inside was a sleeve of AVX balls and nothing else.

So, while I think that the offered sleeve is generous, and that the speed of Titleist's response is extraordinary, still I was hoping for some commentary from R&D about causes. Perhaps and probably the R&D boys are busy enough with bigger and tougher problems. Time will tell, both here at WRX and in the broader golfing community, whether this one ball just had a bad week or whether the current AVX cover/"paint job" has issues.

I'll stay interested in this issue for a while. But the interest will be strictly academic, as I've re-discovered the black V1's virtues (just as long, for me, off the long clubs, but with much better grab near/on the greens), and so have banished the AVXs to the closet where Naughty Clubs go.

Interesting picture. I had a bunch of random balls given to me and my shag bag was full. I put them in a black netting type bag I had from some camping stuff. The bag was tossed around here and there. Finally one day and I gave the bag to a friend and when he pulled the balls out they all looked like that. Like they had worn but it they were not....

Your saying that happened playing the ball? Having a hard time understand that because the paint being gone is soooo symmetrical. Like it was in a roller or something.

Ie: like the bag I had the others in it was just like this, perfect where it touched the dimple edges.

A few years ago, I bought a pair of FootJoy rain gloves that came with a small towel to be clipped on your bag.

I did not wash the towel before using it. Every time I cleaned a ball with that towel, the ball got black discolorations like in the OP picture.

Once I washed the towel and got rid of whatever dye they used, it ceased to discolor golf balls.

The towel had a "waffle" surface.

Wow, they must be durable because, in my experience, the yellow Srixon's are almost indestructible.

Yellow XV is amazingly durable but the yellow AVX is right up there near it. Maybe not quite as bulletproof but very close.
