Sunglasses and putting?

Petunia Sprinkle

Recommended Posts

Never used to putt with glasses on but bought a pair of the oakley prizm golf lenses and now I don't even think about it. I actually played 2 rounds without taking my glasses off to putt before I even realized I wasn't taking them off. I don't think they make it easier to read the green but they don't hurt either.

I wear the same and keep them on when putting. I find myself squinting if I take them off. Great lenses.

There are rounds I don't wear them at all. But once on they stay on.

The only down fall with them is the course looks significantly more brown with them on. Often my partners will mention how good the greens look and I'll have to remove my glasses to see what they see. The Oakley's prizm lenses definitely makes the dry spots stand out.

Nope ! No sunglasses while putting, or full shots.

Wear them in between, though. Keeps the dust out and block wind.

Always leave mine on if I'm wearing them - haven't really noticed a difference on or off - however, I've been at my club for 25 years so probably don't look at putts quite as closely as I should...

Wore my Oakley Feedback with Polarised lenses yesterday, finished with 29 putts. Missed a tiddler on the 2nd but that wasn't the glasees' fault, unless they can make my right hand take over and pull the putt left.

I used to wear non-prescription glasses all the time when it was sunny. Then my eyes god bad enough to not see where the ball went and switched to Rx lenses. Took some getting used to but I don't have any trouble at any point in the round anymore. Putting was the biggest issue and that was mostly from the Rx not the sunglasses.

I always took my glasses off when putting, but recently got fitted with prescription distance glass w/transition (turns dark brown). If I take them off for putting my vision would get blurry so I just leave them on.

I have prescription Bolle sunglasses that I have to wear. I can’t wear contacts here in AZ, too dry. My Rx sunglasses have to be perfect though, I’ve had the same eye doctor for 10+ years and they know my priority is being able to play golf and see well. If an updated prescription comes back a little off they will remake the lenses until they are perfect. I’ve used transitions lenses with success as well. The super wrapped/curved lenses aren’t easy to get right so I stay away from those.

If I may ask, what model of Bolle sunglasses do you have? I'm thinking of getting some new prescription sunglasses, and there are a couple of Bolle models I might consider.

Funny to see this topic go up.....very timely for me!

I VERY rarely play in sunglasses. This week, I forgot my cap and pulled out my golf-specific Oakleys. I typically average around 1 three putt for round. I swear I three putted 4 times, once with a long eagle try....it had never really dawned on me that after 30 years of golfing with my eyes, this might be messing with me more than I thought. Obviously, I can't prove it was the glasses, but, surely possible...

I have to say, after that round, I'd be hard pressed to wear sunglasses during a round where I care about my score.

I know as we age, our pupils are less efficient/capable of filtering the correct amount of light, and eventually this can cause pain, headaches, vision loss, etc. However, I subscribe to the notion that they're unnecessary until they become so, just like lip balm. I see so many people wean into a particular creature comfort and eventually find themselves completely unable to function without it, case and point, lip balm. I can count on one hand how many times I've waxed up my mouth, pshaw. Pamper the body too much and soon enough you'll weaken it. Rant over.

Oakley Radars with Chrome iridium. I like no color change, in other words keeping with grey color, reds and others can distort colors and I don't like that. Other big rule is never any polarization.

I also have found the change from flak 2.0s to radar EVs has been really good, I have a big face and head and the extra vision they bring with it they have been really good

Bought prescription sunglasses designed for outdoor sports and they work great. More of subtle lens color, not very dark, and I don’t take them off. I don’t have a strong prescription but they make a major difference.
