Proper looking links this week. They could have used a few more bigger names being there but can't complain too much.

Not a fan of how the course is setup and how they are managing the greens.

Agreed. The greens seem overwatered compared to the surroundings.

As to the rest of the course, Gullane is not hard for tour players, and the weather means that there is no rough to speak of. At carnoustie I think they've been watering it, but that's just not practical here.

And they were heavily watering the geeens behind the last group after they finished with a hole. When I was waking up 18 they had the firehoses out spraying down holes 5 and 6

Are you on site this week? I didn't get to see any coverage yesterday so what is it about the set up that you don't like? I just turned it on and watch Reid take 3 shots out of a greenside bunker. Very soft sand.

Greens way too soft and too slow. With the rough being dry and not penal you can’t have it play soft on the green

What is that in the bunkers at the practice area?

Not the practice area. Putting green by 1st tee so you can’t use bunkers. They are trying to keep sand off the green

Thanks. I should have read farther as you had already talked about it. If that's the case then I couldn't agree more.

Really like this course so far. And I am using europeantour.com for the first time. Wow, pgatour needs to learn a few things. This site is so easy to get around in. And I like how they give useful information about the venue. Also the site is not pestering me with popups and trying to manipulate me to using a mobile version. Easy to find what I want too.

Update: omg they trust I can read too. I get easy access to articles and not those stupid lazy videos.

I always thought they kept the greens slow as a defense against high winds.

There not even close to being fat enough for wind to be a problem. Guys are fixing pitch marks on every green

interesting you say that, I am Scottish and in Houston for the summer and wow was shocked how soft the greens are here, repaired my first pitch marks for a while. Can see why everyone just takes outa 60* to pitch.

I don't think I have repaired a proper pitch mark at home since end of April, they were really letting the greens get hard.

I was at an Artisan putting fitting last week and walked on to their green for the fitting and was like dam this is soft and John was laughing as he thought it was hard.

At my course for the Amateur Championship the greens were 10.5 ish and the 45 mph wind day they only cut 4 of the greens over night to slow them down. The last medal day I played in Scotland was about 35mph day and the ball was oscillating slightly.

Greens are soft and green and getting watered because if they just left them like the fairway, they'd become unplayable very quickly and would most likely lose them.

Greens on links courses are never fast. Fortunately links greenkeepers understand weather.

These are extremely soft and slow, even for links courses. And is the opinion of everyone I’ve heard in the field. All the players were commenting on how slow they were, including multiple Open Championship winners. Last week was a links course and was exponentially firmer and at least 2’ faster. Last years Open Championship was also a ton firmer and faster. And next week will be much firmer and faster. They wouldn’t lose the greens.
