FairwayFred's WITB Pic thread

Recommended Posts

Looks so clean with the paint fill stripped. Amazed that I'm looking at a Carbon head given the even patina.

Sent Patrick a probatory email yesterday regarding a short set of NCW irons. Really intrigued by your paired playing lengths. Would you be willing to comment on the thought process behind the decision and the results that you are seeing? How is ball flight and distance gapping. Contemplating matching the lengths of my PW/9 and 8/7. Also may add 6/5 iron. Have always played variable length irons.

The idea behind the pair lengths was to limit the number of "postures" I had to learn. I believe it lessens one variable. I got the idea from Bobby Jones 1930 grand slam winning set. The ball flight and distance gapping is ideal when I got them I hit a bunch of balls on trackman and bent them to where I needed them to get the gaps I wanted. Didn't have to change them much from my initial specs. I'm extremely happy with them and am making another set w the same lengths.

I'm so intrigued by the concept, but have only carried variable length sets. Part of me is scared to deviate from what I already know. Much to think about with a truly custom set of clubs.

I missed the boat with Scratch, want to be a passenger this time aroud.

Be carful of "neck weight"... I had Raybon make me a #7 with plumbers neck and it was awesome. But sweet spot was way towards the heel and could not get my launch right with it.

Appreciate the feedback Jeff, definitely something i will look into, or bear in mind, when combining that head/hosel. But, i must ask.. was this before, or after an employee at a Taylormade Fitting Centre bent it every which way possible? - it arrived back with us with the lie angle altered by 3° and negative 2° loft :dntknw:

I've said it before on this forum, Wardo was absolutely the worst customer we ever dealt with in 13+ years of Scratch Golf. After a while literally all of my employees refused to work with him anymore. So much so that we have refused to work with him on project through NCW. I won't even get into it any further but I was surprised to see him post in my WITB thread and benefit of the doubt goes to Ian Raybon here 100% based on what I've seen of his craftsmanship and what I know about Wardo.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming....

? I sent my Scratch head to you to make me another one just like it. It was and still is the best wedge I have ever had. A matter of fact I have purchased 8 Scratch wedges and two sets of irons with no issues. The problem was you could not match your own stock grind. I do appreciate how you guys tried three times for me but were never even close. It did not suprise me that Scratch failed at all.. No clean business plan you tried changing business model 3 times? Anyways, if that made me a horrible customer so be it...

LOL Wardo.....

How many times to we have to go over this? You sent us a wedge that was heavily modified by someone (you I assume) who didn't really know what they were doing. It was not a stock grind. (if it was a stock grind you could have just purchased another stock wedge instead of a hand made copy) We copied it for you over and over. You were always very quick to berate and complain but never could tell us what was exactly wrong with each wedge. It was like asking someone how they liked the wine and them saying it was too grape-y.

You were the most rude, beligerant, obnoxious, unreasonable and horrible customer any of us ever had to deal with. Every single person that had to deal with you refused to deal with you again after their interaction with you. I distinctly remember you screaming at one of the guys that worked for me while he was in the hospital because he didn't have your specs on hand (I happened to be there visiting him at the time).

That's just one of the many horror stories. Don White's work was good enough for Jack Nicklaus (and countless other Tour players) but not Wardo. Jeff McCoy's work was good enough for Cristie Kerr (and countless other Tour players) but not Wardo. You are awful to deal with and National Custom Works or any other business I am ever a part of will NEVER work with you. Truly not interested in your uneducated opinion on Scratch or anything else. I know I am not alone in that statement either when it comes to people in this industry. There's a long list that runs when they hear your name. Even if I had a momentary lapse of judgement and agreed to work with you on a project both Jeff and Don would refuse to make clubs for you and Patrick would dissolve our partnership. There's no excuse for treating people the way you do.

Every business at its core is there to make money but some people are not worth dealing with no matter the money. You are the definition of one of those people. Please go away and troll somewhere else........

Damn.

..... And I thought my bag was a mixed bag!! :-)

You really like those Thumps? First day I was like, "Yea, good shaft, could work..." I never uttered those words again.

Now. I just double backed to your post, our bags actually are still similar. Especially from 5 Iron down to Putter.

I am very eager to hear your reply of the Ping G400 Stretch.

How is that G400 stretch combo. I love a lower lofted 3 wood and I've had my eye on the G400

I really like the Thumps in the fwys. Been using them for atleast 2 years.

Only 1 round w the stretch so far and it wasn't my home course so not sure yet. Promising results on the range but I need to make sure I can carry it far enough off the deck for it to work. My home course has long, hard par 5s I need to be able to hit off the deck into the wind especially.

Btw changed out the shaft in the driver to a Project X Tour 52 which is always a shaft that works for me. I hit the Drago well but seem to miss a little high on the face which is rare for me. That shot doesn't go as far as id like. Want to see if it's the shaft or not and the PX52 is a great baseline shaft for me that almost always works well.

The Ping Max must not have behaved on its trip to Scotland! .....

.... The man has a new driver en route to Michigan!

Hahaha actually the MAX was great in Scotland I'm just that much of a HO I guess!!!

The MAX is shockingly forgiving. I got into a car accident in June and my hip has been injured. My swing hasn't been good this summer and the MAX gets in into the fairway a good distance more than any other driver I have. That said I'm getting better and it will have a battle on its hands w my JBeam and the new JDM Epic Star.....
