Any love for the Nubbins?

From what I can find on forums here it is almost unanimous that nearly everyone hates the TaylorMade Nubbins series. I am almost floored by that. I could not be separated from my B1S. I love the soft feel and I also feel as though I get excellent distance control.

 

So what is behind all of the hate for the nubbins? And if you like the Nubbins, or still game it, what is behind your reasoning to be of the minority (myself included) that actually enjoy it?

Wow talk about blast from the past. I had a b9s long neck way back when they came out. It was ok. Wouldn’t buy one again though. A couple of years ago I had a b11s that was excellent. I let a friend use it and haven’t seen him or it since. That one I do wish I had back.

Because it looks more like a basketball than a putter and it felt like you were hitting the ball with a hot pile of poo.

When you're asking your psychologist about this, ask her why you still like the Pontiac Aztek and Beanie Babies so much, too. There's probably a perfectly good, deep-rooted explanation for it.

I still use my nubbins from time to time. TM was actually sued over the design for ripping off another manufacturer, so they were forced to stop selling these putters.

 

The shape and neck on my nubbins is the best and if I could find that in a TPM or a Ping Vault series, id buy it immediately

the basketball face was so cool to me back then I use to walk into the pro shop and putt with them all the time ... thankfully I never bought one lol

Throw in a Wilson Invex and some VAS irons, then you really were the envy of your JV golf team back in the 90’s

I have a mint one that sits in the corner of my room. Found it for $5 several years ago at an auction.

I will admit, it is an ugly POS with an even uglier headcover but I have grown too comfortable with it to replace it yet.

I totally forgot about these. I've had a couple over the years. I think I probably picked them up at thrift stores. I know I didn't care for the feel much. They worked just fine though. I think I probably gave them away.

I won a junior tourney with the nubbins back in the day. that's probably why I still have it. If TM took this exact shape and made a modern day putter out of it, milled, I would buy it in a second.

The Nubbins probably had the longest tenure in my bag of any putter I owned. I do believe with a lot of the new face inserts its a very antiquated technology. I still have mine, but it hasn't seen a course in years.

I won my biggest tournaments with Nubbins b5s. Honestly, the neck... the head shape.. that little alignment line... if you liked the soft feel, this putter was really nice. No kidding

I've used one since 2000ish, when i was 12.... My original broke a year or so ago (head finally just fell off... made the last putt i took with it- 10 ft birdie putt!) and after trying a few other clubs found the exact model on ebay for 35$ in great condition.  i use a b3s with a 34 inch shaft and fat grip...  

 

I enjoy seeing all the hate for the nubbins... I have been using one for about 20 years... currently averaging 31.4 putts per round, handicap 5.5... 

 

I would attribute the nubbins love to how unique the face feel is... for me, playing alot of golf over my life with only one putter, and that putter having such a unique face insert, has to be why it is so hard to stray from the Nub.  

 

I play all Titleist clubs and would love the look of a Scotty in my bag... but when you have a relationship with a putter that spans a lifetime... it's hard to change!  i do have another friend who is also a good player... started playing the in same time period and his putter at the same age was also a nubbins...  Same story for him!  Old Nubbins still in his bag.

 

Happy to see there are a few others out there like me!  As ugly as and gimmickie as the face is, nothing can compare to that soft rubber sweet spot once you grow to love it.

Just found an immaculate B1 in the back of my dads garage and got really excited to use it. A quick search online and it seems to be the most hated putter on earth. Now i'm really interested to see how it performs.

I just ordered the B1s off eBay for $40. Thing is mint even come with the original headcover. I use to have this putter when I was around 12. I always liked it.

I had a Nubbins putter at one point.  I just played with an older gentleman this weekend that was still using one!

My dad still has his but doesn’t use it. It’s like someone welded a table tennis paddle to the front of a putter.
