Pebble- question

Recommended Posts

So I get a random text from my mom the other night asking if I would be interested in heading down to pebble for a few days to golf in September. So, of course I'm in..

I live in Tahoe so I'm going to have her fly into San Jose and pick her up on my way. We are going to spend the night of the 17th and 18th at the inn at Spanish bay and play pebble the 18th and spyglass the 19th.

My Mom uses a concierge/travel service to book her big trips so she booked this one through them also.

So my question?

She was told that the only time we can play pebble is 3:00 on Tuesday afternoon which on September 18 has us chasing daylight with sunset around 7:10. Likely we won't finish on time. So I said wing it and we will see if someone cancels out earlier and we can jump on then. The agent booked it and then came back at us saying if we wanted to try to get on the waiting list for a 3rd tee time we would have to book a 3rd night. We don't want a 3rd time we just want to get on the list to get out earlier on the 18th if we can.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I thought staying on the property pretty much guaranteed a good tee time?

Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any info

Tee sheet might be full up since you are only 2 months out.

I would book the tee time with the agency. Then call pebble directly, play dumb, say you have this tee time is there anything earlier that day.

We had a 2:40 start at Pebble last Sunday and it was getting a little darkish on 18. There were some groups behind us but I'm not sure they got the "guarantee to finish" promise we did. It is a 5.5+ hour round as we finished at 8:20. It won't be light enough in September for sure, but like others said keep calling as the staff there are really accommodating and will do all they can to help you out. I doubt there are many cancellations but something may come up.

I played Pebble and Spyglass this past Monday and Tuesday. I had an afternoon tee time at Spyglass (2pm) and it was an over 5 hour round of golf. There is zero chance you will finish Pebble teeing off at 3pm in September, and for that price its not worth it if you have to miss out on the finishing holes. As others recommended, I would call Pebble directly and see if there are any other options for either day. The resort is very helpful and very courteous over the phone.

I'm here. Sorry

Thanks for the responses. Today is my Saturday so I called first thing this morning and talked to a reservation specialist.

So as I was just told it, it's true. During the busy season the only way to gurantee a tee time that actually finishes is to stay 3 nights. Since we are only staying 2 nights we are pretty much in the same boat as the general public with the 24 hour call being our best bet for an earlier time.

Seems kind of messed up to me! The guy didn't even really say they absolutely didn't have an early one, he just said we would have to book a 3rd to gurantee one. Of course when I asked about it being a cheaper twilight rate (since we won't finish) there was silence, and then I was told there is no such thing as a twilight rate at pebble beach. I guess we can just call and hope for the best a day or so out.

The trip was my moms idea since she just turned 65 the other day and it's on her bucket list. Just going to go and enjoy to the fullest no matter the outcome

Why not just try to move your original tee time to an earlier time?????

That's what I tried this morning. Jist of it is you need 3 nights stay for a "prime" tee time. Kind of whack!?!?

He wouldn't even put me on a waiting list for an earlier tee time if someone cancels at this point.

That is a lie then. My father and I booked a 2 night stay in September (going in 2 months) and were able to get guaranteed to finish times for Pebble, Spanish Bay, and Spyglass Hill.

You Figure out how to stay an extra day and change your crappy time and then add Spyglass. I LOVED Spyglass. One of my all time favorites. I’d take it over Spanish Bay any day.

Oops... just reread it. You’re playing Spyglass.. my bad.

Add a day and add Carmel valley ranch then. Right down the road.

Do we have to call and get the Cali special...or is it automatically applied when we play in August?

You needed to reference it when you booked, you cannot apply them retroactively. "Hi I'm calling to make a teetime via the NCGA or California Special..." As they have allotted times for the deals and once they are gone they are gone. Pebble goes quick, the other two, I doubt they'd use up their allotment.

I'm actually there playing on the 20th via their NCGA-day-after US AM special.

Just wanted to add that the California Special will be in effect next month 8/1 thru 8/29.

Pebble $395 includes cart

Spyglass $225 includes cart

Spanish Bay $150 includes cart.

As an ncga member I can tell you these are tremendous prices.

Wow gents...thanks for the tip. Just booked Spanish ($150), Spyglass ($395) and Pebble ($395) for August 27, 28 and 29, respectively...without staying on property!!! Just mentioned the Cali Special and she booked them all!! Spyglass is full rate (no special times available) but worth it, having a guaranteed time at Pebble! This website is so awesome.

I played Pebble with some Clients about 8 years ago. I had called about 3 months in advance, but since I was not staying @ the Lodge, they said I could only call 24hrs in advance. Well, my thought was "there's no way in...that I will be able to get on with only a 24 hr notice, so I booked Spanish Bay instead.

Well, for some reason I decided to call 48 hrs before my t-time and lo and behold, they had a 4some cancel - and even though I was a day early in calling, she gave me the t-time.

So - yes, please call and since you are staying @ the Lodge, Pebble staff will do everything they can to get you on earlier if anything pops up.

Either way, enjoy the course and hit 'em straight. :golfer:

I was looking at taking my Father on a trip to Pebble as a gift for having helped me fix up a recent home purchase. If the requirement is 3 days stay for a preferred tee time at Pebble Beach is my math correct that I am looking at $5k for 3 nights and 3 rounds of golf (Pebble, Spy and Spanish)? Wow.

Sounds about right! I was able to book 3 rounds for only a 2 night stay for next week, but this was months ago, so policy might of changed.
