So, we all have our habits and way of doing things. What is your golfer stereotype?

Im the ball hunter. I cant help but drive along the woods and water hazards searching for a few free Pro Vs or any other premium ball. If im playing alone I can get distracted for some time... Ill collect some good looking cheap balls too and just leave them in the cart or my less picky golf buddies will take them. That or save them to do some skipping at a pond (if the course has one).

I always approached the game like Bryson, before I even knew who he was. That's why I enjoy rooting for him.

I can't win by pure athleticism, so I enjoy using my brain to give myself every advantage I can.

For that reason, my friends all seem to bring their swing or equipment questions to me. I can answer the equipment ones with physics, but I am always hesitant to give swing advice!

    Why do I hit my 30* 6i further than my 28* 5i.....?

Assuming they are from the same set, it's most likely swing speed. 5i is launching too low and doesn't carry as much as you need.

Unless for some reason that extra 0.5" on the shaft causes you to top, shank or thin everything compared to your 6i. image/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

    I'm the ball hunter.

Oh, I hate you! Haha, j/k.

I've golfed with folks who I swear were more excited about looking for balls than playing, lol. I'm 100% the opposite. I take a quick scan and if I don't see it, I'm dropping within about 60 seconds

    Love this question though.

I guess I'm the eternal optimist. I go with the flow.

...playing partner sinks a 4-footer for a snowman... 'hey, nice putt!'

...playing partner shoots a 98...'yeah, but you had that sweet par save back on #7!'

...'so guys, do we wanna walk or ride? I'm good either way!'

...'oh, man, this was the worst round of my life...ya'll good for next week?'

Yup. Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm also that guy that lets out a big sigh when a playing partner spends 30 minutes looking for his ball he "knows was right here". I think and analyze too much so the quicker I can play, usually the better.

Look for your ball for 60 seconds and its done! 5 minutes looking for 1 golf ball..... NOPE. Chances are if you dont see it initially its gone.

Or even worse, the person that is completely horrible, can't even break 100, but freaks out if the shot doesn't do what he wants... uhhhhhh where'd those expectations come from? lol

i admit it -- i have a tendency at times (especially if i know the person i'm playing with) to talk to my playing partner's golf ball.

My stereotype is probably impatient. If it is even a question whether it could be lost or not I declare and hit a provisional and do about one pass through the weeds looking for my first one. An extra 10 seconds to re tee saves a lot of time and shame later if you have to come back.

I didn't mean to imply Bryson wasn't athletic, but I see how it could be read that way.

If you don't think he uses his brain, I guess we are nothing alike then.

He was very good at math in school, learning algebra at age 6. He loves learning. He is a good artist and paints very well. He uses Vector putting. Those are all things that resonate with me. I was a "jock" in high school. 3 sport varsity athlete. But as I got to higher levels of athletic, I just couldn't keep up. I also have an artistic side, and draw sketches and play instruments.

Anyway, it was more in the way we approach the game. Similar attitude. This quote really resonated with me:

    Q. Well, is golf science or is it art?

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU: Everybody asks me that question. I believe it's the same thing. Most people think that, oh, you're either technical or you're an artist, you're a feel player, whatever.

It's a long discussion. But kind of simplify it, it's more about combining the two for me to make me play my best golf. If I can have these technicalities and underlying principles that allow me to apply it better on the golf course, great.

Now, once I get on the golf course I've got to play some golf and that requires some intrinsic artistry that comes about from experience, I guess. I'm only 22. I don't have that much experience. But, at the same time, having the little amounts of knowledge, that experience helps me to play better golf.

An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
