Mizuno TP 11 new purchase

Hi all,

Managed to get my hands on a nice set of Mizuno TP 11's in pretty much the best condition a used set could be in. looks like the 8, 9 and SW were played a fair bit but the rest don't have much wear at all!

I'll post some pictures when i get a chance but other than grips (which are Golf Pride Victory V's which may be the orig. grips installed at the factory. Seems they have some sort of shaft extensions on them as i can feel them moving a bit under the grip but when i change the grips i'll get a better idea.

P.S. Reference picture FYI:

$_86.JPG

These seem to be in the same condition as mine more or less but i did notice on the Sand iron that the ferrule has two green lines which looks great but the rest have a plain black ferrule. The shafts btw are Dynamic Gold S200U which i guess is a slightly lighter (About 1.8g) than the standard S300 just like the S400 is about 1.8g heavier. I was unsure what the U meant in the S200U though. I have seen this before on X100U stickers.

Pics of mine to follow;

Best regards

Derek

The "U" on the shaft band means "unitized," aka parallel. The shaft bands for Dynamic Gold shafts are designed to be used with either tapered or parallel shafts, with one end having the U added to the flex designation, and the other end lacking the U.

This does not necessarily mean the shafts are parallel, merely that the bands were applied to the shaft with the U side displayed. Not everyone pays attention when they attach the shaft bands. ;)

If you're not sure if you have parallel or tapered DG, you can check with an adjustable wrench or calipers. Tapered DG shafts have a constant taper from the .355 tip to around .395 at the bottom of the first step. Parallel are .370 from the bottom of the first step to the tip.

Wow your info has me confused because i always thought the "U" designated tapered tip shafts. But I'm only basing this off of what I own,so who knows.

Fast way to tell if they are tapered or parallel is 1st step is an "1'-2" closer to hosel on tapered. Forget the exact dimensions but it helps with my old eyeballs.

Big fan of tapered DG, excellent shaft.

I've seen wood used for extensions but not cork. That would be a new one to me. :)

Lovely set of 11s you've acquired. <tip cap>

My friend, thanks for straightening me out on the "U" designation. You are correct but weird thing is I have 5 sets with S300. Two of them are tapered tip, both have "U" sticker and the others do not. Go figure.

It was a not infrequent topic, back in the early days of golf forums. :)

Hey all,

I had a go with the TP11's tonight, just a few holes at my home course but the results were very interesting! I was still getting a pretty penetrating flight but the height was right up there but with a strong flight if that makes sense and the spin was much more than my equivalent shot with the MP33's.

On one hole i hit a 6 iron in to the green, nice flight but strangely high and the spin was more like what i'd normally get from a 9 iron. i checked out the lofts and the TP11 should be 33deg and the MP33 32deg's so that would make a little difference and then the S200 shaft vs the S300 shaft which i couldn't 100% tell the difference with altho if i was pushed to answer i would say it felt a little weaker as i'd be pushed to notice a 1.8gram difference i think?

Anyway the lofts are truly classic with a 45deg 9 iron, 49deg Wedge and 55deg Sand Wedge! - Saying that the short irons are excellent and have a superb flight (maybe a little high) and the spin generated from these probable 28year old irons was excellent. Strange thing is these TP11s are in better condition than my mates MP4s, we compared them tonight and his had far more chatter and dings than the TP11s which is amazing really.

Took some pictures too but my trusty D300s is playing silly buggers (Not so trusty) but i'll get some done asap.

Cheers

Derek
