Would say an ace..but I wouldn't know that feeling.

Flushed iron shots always feel amazing. And getting up and down from a ridiculous lie/angle can make make me smile.

Oh...and any time you can hit a drive 15 yards+ past your buddies. That one feels really good lol

20 years ago I would have said cracking a drive 240+ in the fairway but these days my driving game is 200-210 and in the fairway regularly - I cannot hit it far enough to get in trouble and it has become less gratifying. My greatest swing feeling (since I switched to hybrids) is putting a long shot on the green (190 max and lots of roll). And nothing beats the feeling of driving home after playing either to or better than my handicap.

A 3 wood rolling up to 10 feet had some luck in it. Sure you can strike it solid and know your yardage, but a wood rolling out close to a pin has a god bit of fortune.

For me, it's a 4 or 5 iron off of firm turf; something like Scotland where the grass is thin. There is not much room for error on the strike and it feels great to clip it off the turn and have it bore through the air.

That little chip shot that feels bladed and makes you cringe but gives it enough zip to one hop and stop right next to the hole.

Any flushed iron shot.

Agreed, but I'll go one further. For me it's when I flush my 2-iron off the tee, and watch it roll past my playing partners' shots with driver. I distinctly remember one evening during league where my playing partner asked "what club did you hit?", and after I told him he said "damn, you hit that well".

Or last weekend when I had about 150 in, I pulled 9-iron because I didn't want to be long, and listened to my playing partner say "I'm not sure you'll be able to get a 9 there". Then proceeding to flush it to the middle of the green, and hearing him say "you hit a 9-iron??"

Tough question and like most questions that include 'what is the best' I hate to limit it to just 1 choice.

For me it would be:

1) An approach shot that gets close. A full lob wedge that might mean within 5 feet and a wood that might mean on the fringe 25 feet away.

2) The escape shot:

a) My favorite being the Driver off the deck to keep it low under tree limbs and requiring a fade which is not my normal ball flight. Driver off the deck when it is not an escape shot is also very satisfying when well struck.

b) Second favorite would be over trees where I go a few clubs up, open the face to get extra loft and hit a moon shot to somewhere where I have a reasonable chance to actually make a putt.

3) Driving a par-4 green

4) A well struck drive in the general direction of where I am aiming or a bombed (for me) drive that leaves me with a mostly clear shot to the pin.

5) An approach shot that intentionally uses the slope of a two tiered green to get the ball back to the hole on the lower tier.

6) A hybrid or 3-wood off the tee that doesn't over-hook and lands near the fairway. It's like a great weight lifted off my shoulders.

For the shots that happen so rarely or frequently enough that I just can't call them the best feeling shot because they usually involve some luck. Ex: sinking a 40 foot putt on aerated greens to win on the last hole of a championship match. Making a birdie put which thankfully happens enough to not feel like it is

I'm afraid this particular feeling will never come again - using a Mizuno MP-14 2-Iron to nail a wound Titleist Professional Balata high into the air, and watching it land safely on the par 5's island green, setting up an eagle putt, as the sun sets on a beautiful summer evening. I still have the 2-Iron, but of course haven't hit it in years, and wound balata can only be found in a museum.

Off the tee, nothing feels better than a push fade with a driver that goes into the woods. A nano-second of pure perfect feedback followed by agonizing seconds of regret and ultimately a realization that you're lying two as you reach into your pocket for another ball.

Haha! Doesn't it seem like the old block-right always finds the dead center of the face?

It is remarkable. I sometimes wonder if I'd be better off aiming 40 yards into the woods and just learning to hit that dead solid perfect block-push down the middle of the fairway.

The shot that tells you you've just sealed the deal on your personal low-round. (It might not be the actual last shot/putt, but could be that approach that you stick the green and you know you're virtually guaranteed your best round ever.)

I'm still hunting par, been 1-over three times.

As for which physical golf shot, I'd go with the common answer: a flushed long iron that tracks like a guided missile to the target, preferably the flag.

As a high capper and not getting many GIR's I would have to say my favorite shot is seeing a wedge shot plop down right next to the pin.

I hit so few greens in regulation, every time I do hit one and miss a birdie putt it's always a great feeling to tap in that second and realize I still made Par. Wow, two-putting for par. That seems almost like stealing to a 20 HCP!

Easy for me is the 3 wood dreaded second shot on a par 5 that actually elevates (I always try to swing out of my shoes and usually skull it) and lands on the green. I haven't tasted the joy of making the eagle but the rare times I do get on the green in 2 is always special for me.

Driving the green on short part 4s is fun but again i have blown the putts.

I'm inclined to agree with the OP on the pured 3-wood. Been working on that club off the deck and had a couple shots in my round yesterday that I'm still thinking about. When you can get a favorable lie and make solid contact with the ball the combination of the tactile sensation of the strike and then looking up and seeing the ball rocketing toward the green is unreal.

Of course more often than not that club gets me into trouble.
